Professor Sanford is great. He takes potentially dry material and delivers it in an interesting way. He's a fair grader and helpful. I highly recommend taking a class with him. He's pretty funny too!

Honestly, Professor Sanford is really good! I am not interested in the subject he teaches but he is willing to answer your questions and explains everything. Assignments are fairly easy and so are the tests, he even gives a study guide for them. Just attended the lectures and take notes and you'll be fine!

I truly think Sanford is a great professor. You do need to take pretty good notes, as most of the time he lectures and flips through slide shows. But he is a fair grader and is incredibly helpful. He sometimes even gives extra resources and study guides if he feels like a particular topic is difficult.

No easy A's, but you will learn a lot. Good sense of humor. Gives you the grade you deserve if you put in effort. You HAVE to do work. Willing to help if you talk to him. One of the best professors I've had at college.

Very interesting class. Take notes and study though because his test can be hard. And make sure when the draft for a paper is due it is completely done because he will take ten points off the final grade.

Nice guy, but not a push over. Always willing to help you IF you're willing to work - slackers get no free pass. No easy A's, he's a stickler on papers, but he's only out to make sure you learn. He has a pseudo outdated teaching style, but he's informal and quirky (i.e. he only "picks on" the best students or those he knows from other classes.)

Archeology was "my whole world" before taking it with Sanford. Apparently I'm too stupid with calculations and math to be allowed to have an interest in this field, my passion for the subject and descriptive writing style weren't good enough apparently. Its a shame, bc of this teacher, he lost a supporter of his field in me.

Great Professor!! Very funny, which some people see as unprofessional, but I see as down to earth and intriguing. No problem staying focused in class, really enjoyed it! Very helpful and entertaining. I learned a lot and will definitely take more classes with him!

I was attempting to study American archeology, but did not want to focus on Civil War archeology. He told me that he couldn't grade any papers I wrote not dealing with Rev. or CW history. He was also not willing to work with me to figure out how to go to a conference. Everyone who drinks with him will get an A.

Actually never really had problems with his grading, but saw how hard he was on my friend. Also I take my work and my studies very seriously, so I really had a problem with how unprofessional Sanford was. A class can be fun and interesting while still molding a positive and professional atmosphere.

Did all the readings and got straight C's. I'm an A student in every other class. Don't get tricked how nice this man seems. If you have an opinion other than his, he will fail you, instead of listening to your opinions and talking them out with you like most good teachers do.

Thought the material was easy...in that I really felt like I understood it and of coarse was really interested in it. Classmates would come in saying they spent less than an hour on papers, when i would spend DAYS and days working really hard on mine. Never got a single A, or a good grade for that matter. Just depends if he likes you or not.

Funny to talk to, but horrible teacher. Just because seemingly nice doesn't mean is a good at teaching.

Prof Sanford is a very funny guy. He always tries to make jokes in class and his attempts are cute! Although the material is hard, the papers are easy if you give yourself time. He is always open to answering any ?'s and will explain to you n e thing in which can be confusing to make it simpler. Im not a HISP major & this was my 1st class. not bad

Wasn't worried taking his class even after these reviews, because I liked Archeology. However liking it doesnt make you a favorite, unfortunately. Now I have a bad grade AND now hate archeology.

Nice guy, bad teacher. I tried so hard, but was not a favorite so consequently almost failed. Talking to classmates and seeing their work, my work was often just as good or better, yet I NEVER got an A in ANYTHING in over 3 semesters of classes with him. B's were hard to get too. Frustrating when some students "easily" get A's.

wow there's such a great disparage in the ratings- as in either you love him or hate him, whether hes easy or hard. Just goes to show you, HE PLAYS FAVORITES. If your an archeology student congratulations, you got an A, just don't confuse it with doing a good job. The rest of us worked really hard, just dont have the grade to show for it.

some posters have said he gives outlines to follow. i dont know about in the past, but in my classes he has given 2-4 DIFFERENT outlines for the SAME assignment! the whole point of an outline is to make more clear, not have conflicting criteria! unorganized and unlcear. you follow everything to a t, and nope still not good enough.
