Comment:

Prof. Phillippy is a really down to earth guy and he wants his students to pass, however his teaching is just overall not good. He spends way too much time explaining proofs and theories that aren't included in the tests, and his grading is ticky tacky and tough to follow. Also, he says "I hope that it's clear" a lot, and usually it is not clear.

Prof. Phillippy is an overall nice guy, but his teaching abilities are not up to par. He spends a ton of time in class showing you material that you are never tested on and doesn't really explain it too well. He assumes that you understand everything he says. If I hadn't taken AP Calculus in high school, I would have definitely failed this class.

Professor Phillippy is a nice guy, but a very difficult teacher. Make sure to do your homework every night or you will be lost in lecture. Tests are very difficult and graded harshly. Make use of office hours, it makes a difference. I would not take this professor again.

Dr. Phillippy is an amazing professor. He cares that you learn not just the material, but the reason behind why it's important. He started every class with deveotions from scripture and prayer. He cares about you as a person if you're willing to build a relationship. He is a tough grader, but he's willing to help you when you're stuck.

Dr. Phillippy is a nice man. He will help you out if you visit him in the office. He is tough at times during the year (especially on tests), but if you put in the work you will succeed and you will take a lot out of the class.

Despite the class being an 8AM, Phillippy's lectures are very engaging. He explains the material very well and is reasonable in his grading. He is fast however, and his tests are like time trials as there never seems to be enough time for comfort.

I really enjoyed his class. He is really detail in his lectures and would not hesitate to answer your questions even though it many seem straightforward to you. He does not look down on anyone instead, he would try his best to help you. I really love his class and would take him again. No regrets!

I took Calc 1. He had a negative view of students and let us out late every day. Prepare to loose your pride if you ask a question in class. He is a tough grader for tests. However, he can be helpful if you visit him in his office. As someone else mentioned, showing him that you work hard will benefit you.

He is a great person and professor. If you don't understand something, ASK or he will move on. Fair grader and explains things well. He's very intelligent-use him as a resource. He is also the dreamiest professor on campus with chalk all over his clothes, bikes and runs daily, and has great eyes

Phillipy is tough. He goes through material very quickly but covers everything. If you don't get something, make sure you ask about it. Otherwise he'll be on to the next thing and you'll just have to figure it out for yourself. Fair tests, fair grading, but definitely not easy.

Nice man, poor teacher. He moves very quickly, and his explanations of the simplest concepts are often lengthy and confusing. Make him know you work hard and he won't fail you. Never worked so hard for a C in my life (15 hours/wk). If it weren't for other guys on my floor that took Calc I would've failed. Prepare to work your butt off!
