Her lower level courses are very easy, not very engaging and I did not really learn anything. There is a monstrous jump to skill requirement for her higher level courses. I found that I really wasn't learning any German and in fact loosing some of my German from previous years.

took a class that I was really really interested in and willing to do a lot for...but it was dull. Fair and balanced professor but does not know how to keep students interested and to vary the material or keep up to date...helpful in many ways, a real academic but does not seem to enjoy teaching.

I really like Ter Horst. She is not as bad as most people maker her out to be. If you show up to class and do your homework she is a very understanding person. she will work with you if you need more help outside of class and if you can handle her teaching straight from the book, then you will do just fine in her class.

Professor ter Horst is a wonderful teacher. Yes she may teach most of the class in German, but that is the best way to learn is to practice listening and speaking. She makes many resources available to you if you are willing to utilize them. No one should expect their grade handed to them. This is college for pete's sake!!

I dunno why she gets bad ratings. Comments I hear on campus are even worse. Ok, she has not much personality, but she is extremely intelligent, and definitely the most literary prof in the dept. She is also a good teacher. Most of the whiners are just stupid and lazy. My frank opinion, apologies where applicable.

Dr. ter Horst expects too much in the way of skill and accuracy in German from her beginer students. She will quite likely treat you like you are stupid if you do not operate at the extremly hard equivalent which she expects you to.

not a hard class, or hard prof as far as i see. definitely makes you write alot, though i think she grades discussion board entries unfairly. edinboro students do know. she teaches classes with us, them and slippery rock with the new tv classroom things.
