she was a really wonderful prof!!! probably the smartest person i've ever conversed with. she is so knowledgable about sociology and life in general... i would highly recommend her! she is super kind and gives great feedback. she makes sociology interesting and engaging.

Eleanor is amazing!!! She is very nice and very funny. She is very helpful not only in her class but is helpful in adjusting to mount holyoke and life in college in general. Her class is interesting but is often confusing. Make sure you go to her office.

Professor Townsley is amazing! I took her course after sitting in on a class during a visit to MHC, and I was not disappointed. She is extremely dedicated to her work, and from her lectures alone you can see how much she loves what she studies. Occasionally the material is confusing, but an office visit clears up any misunderstandings. RECOMMENDED!

Eleanor is incredibly witty, thoughtful, and BRILLIANT in sociology. She is highly personable and deeply cares for her students, regardless of whether you wish to pursue sociology or not. Take Intro to Soc, you'll never regret it!!

Eleanor is AMAZING. Not only is she really funny and kind, she is really really smart. She makes every class entertaining, and sparks my interest in things I previously didn't have much interest in. However, she likes to focus on theory a lot, which I'm not always that interested in. She is definitely one of the best professors at Mount Holyoke.

This is the first semester Soci of media has been offered so the kinks aren't totally worked out of it, but it will be an amazing class after this semester. This is my first Townsley class and I LOVE HER! Even with the kinks that go with teaching a class for the first time, Townsley is a graceful and inspirational professor. Funny! Want to be her.

She's a funny and likable person enjoys sharing bits of her life. However, I found it challenging to do well in the class. You have to keep on top of your readings. Class attendance is a must. The midterm and final were brutal because they were almost exclusively based on the lectures. I did well on the paper but it did not save my final grade.

Very helpful and interested in her students! Always willing to make time to meet with you one-on-one. Class is easy if you make an effort to take good notes and do the readings. She talks too fast sometimes, but is always happy to repeat herself.

Love her. She's so chill (she's Australian) and yet so intelligent and passionate about what she does. That includes not only lecturing, but prompting student discussion and encouraging students to see her during office hours (and learn all 80 of our names). Took this to fulfill a req't but would definitely take a higher level course with her now.

Absolutely disliked her. Was slightly entertaining during class, but not helpful and very hard midterm! Had few hw assignments just a lot of readings that were so difficult and boring. She talks too fast! Expects you to know as much as her sometimes.

I was not particularly interested in media or in sociology, and after taking her class, I've decided to major in sociology. A very interesting first year seminar. lots of group discussions. She explains the material clearly and makes the effort to do so. I just loved her!

Amazing is all I can say. She is a hard grader and her exams are very difficult, but she challenges you while opening your eyes to so many theories and ideas. Just do all the readings and study hard. Eleanor Townsley made me love sociology. Wonderful intro/distribution course.

She's a rockstar! She takes a methods course (SNORE) and makes it a trip and a half. It's a break if all your other classes are reading/writing intensive. You do real work, but everything is hands on and mile a minute. She's always ready to answer questions and offer pointers. This class should be required for all 5-college students in sociology.

Eleanor is a hard grader, but extremely helpful with papers and assignments. Her class discussions are always entertaining and interesting - just make sure you do the reading carefully! Her classes are hard work but definately worth it.
