Comment:
Baeten is a very nice person. She knows her material, but it wasn't always well-delivered. I really appreciated the several opportunities to remake a test or rewrite an essay. The grading criteria wasn't very clear. lectures can be very dull. I'm completely disappointed at what she said in the first class, "Most of you won't get an A."

I think I just personally wasn't a fan of the material. Baeten was pretty caring, and it's hard to not pass the class with at least a C, as she provided plenty of opportunities for students to do better. Classes could be boring though, with very long lectures. She also gave a break at the halfway point in class. Great person, but the class was meh

Elizabeth is one of the nicest people at Emerson. That being said she is not a very good teacher. She mostly only lectures, does not provide clear expectations, and if you get an unsatisfactory grade, her feedback is pretty confusing. Didn't learn a lot here, and my honors classes have always been amazing otherwise. Feeling dull & disappointed.

The entire class is her lecturing at you. She goes on tangents about random things that have nothing to do with ethics. Very monotonous voice. The philosophers' works she had us read were challenging, and she did not do a good job at explaining the significance of their meanings.

Comment:
Super dull class. She expects the students to write back, verbatim what she said in class. If a word is omitted from your response, or if you summarize what she said, you're going to get marked down significantly. Her grading is ridiculous, instead of grading exams individually, she picks the best five and grades the rest to against them.

Can be a bit esoteric and vague at times, but for the most part her teaching was decent. Uses the whiteboard a lot, which I appreciate. HOWEVER - despite what she tells you at the start of the semester, she grades on a curve. A very steep curve in which only a few students in the class get an A.

Elizabeth - She is AMAZING. Easily the best teacher I've ever had at Emerson. I had zero interest in the class going into it and it turned out to be absolutely incredible. She makes it interesting and fun and encourages everyone. She appreciates every single opinion. Hard, but worth it. She's also just an amazing, amazing person.

If you're unlike the vast majority of Emerson students and actually care about stimulating your mind outside of the narrow path you've chosen, this class is perfect for you.

Eloquent, helpful and eccentric, though not much of a lecturer. The text based discussions are stimulating, but application and broadening of topics addressed are rare. Writing papers for her is sooner about composing a summary. Tough grader

She makes sure the class understands the material but I'd be lying if I said the class was either easy or interesting. At least the exams are open note and she lets you take an optional final to boost your grade. She's pretty lenient on paper grading too.

Worst class... a hour and 45 minutes of her monotone voice talking about greek mythology...... I thought this class was ethics? I guess Emerson wrote the course description wrong.

I didnt like this class. She is very boring to listen to. She atleast will give every class a ten minute break during the middle. It was Ethics class and I dont like how she only gives 5 A's no matter what. Only five people in the class can get A's

VERY unclear. Didn't teach any basics of philosophy before trying to "teach" us harder aspects. The entire class was class discussion that didn't really talk about the reading. She was not helpful at all during office hours. Writing her papers was basically guessing because she was so unhelpful and unclear. I would suggest avoiding her if possible.

Liz is a smart, interesting person who is pretty knowledgeable in ethics. That being said, she is oftentimes unclear about what she wants on her tests and papers. Still, if you at least go to class occasionally you will do ok, as long as you can understand what she's talking about. The material is a bit tough to grasp at first in this class.

Great class. Elizabeth is really well-informed, unbiased, very intelligent, and willing to work with you. She knows a lot, but doesn't knock you down for disagreeing with her.

I HATED this class. I wouldn't say because of her or anything, but she sure didn't help. The class straight up sucked, and she's not exactly the most interesting person to make up for it or anything. She is very nice though, I'll give her that.

There are some people out there who love philosophy, I'm sure that they enjoy Prof. Baeten's style and teachings. Personally, I find philosophical theory really hard to follow and this class really confused me.
