Comment:

It's a shame she's such a nice individual, because her class was hell on earth. It was far from interesting, very heavy on book-work and reading, and her lectures felt like pulling teeth. Unless you're a sociologist, you run the risk of death by boredom. If you must take this course, bring your laptop and join an online poker league.

This class was the least enjoyable class i have ever taken. I got a decent grade, but I walked away learning absolutely nothing from the course. She is the most incoherent person I have ever met. She never has a clear line of thought, the woman uses wrong information, in fact I corrected her a few times throughout the class. Avoid this class!

Run, just run, if you see her name on your schedule. She is a poor teacher, who doesn't explain what she's talking (excuse me, rambling) about. She likes suck-ups and pretentious snots... Her readings are useless... The class was, overall, a huge disappointment... Avoid this woman.

Comment:

One of the best classes Emerson has to offer. Most of the students who complained about her teaching never came prepared to learn and did not do well. She requires that you take her seriously, which i find highly respectable. She is intelligent, approachable, and a wonderful woman.

She's really friendly if you get a chance to talk to her outside of class and the make-up sessions I went to with just a few students were many times better then the actual course. If you can get her in a small discussion-based enviornment, you'll enjoy her teaching much more. Otherwise, the class feels awkward and overly lecturing.

I HATE YOU, EMILY KEARNS. Her grading scale is arbitrary. I steadiliy got A's, and when I put forth some effort on the final paper--that i'm sure no one else did--she gave me a C. She was clearly just trying to downgrade us for quotas. Kearns, your class is worthless. You managed to turn something potentially interesting into hell.

She never showed up for class, and when she did she was late. She missed a total of four WEEKS this semester. The assignments were ridiculously stupid. There is no point to reading anything she assigns, so the classes were dull. A waste of time, money and brain cells. I've never been so frustrated by a teacher or a class in my entire life. Horrible

Kearns means well but her class is pure BS. Our midterm consisted of a 2 pg DOUBLE spaced paper on a journal entry we'd already written for the class. She's always eager to help but even her help sometimes doesn't make sense. If you're looking to fulfill a sociology requirement and free time for other homework, this is the class for you.

i really think i'd like emily kearns if i had just met her some other way and hadn't had her as a professor. she's a very intelligent woman, and she seems nice and her ideas would make sense if she had a little less caffeine in her system. however, she can't teach. she gives boring lectures, doesn't know anyone's name, and is very hard to follow.

Kearns is a very sweet woman, however, it is highly unlikely you will learn anything in her class. Going to class was one of the biggest wastes of time. Luckily, she canceled it at least 5 times (once simply not showing up). Her lectures are boring and misguided, as she always goes off on a tangent. Get out of the class!

Emily Kearns is a very nice woman. Emily Kearns is a terrible professor. She has distinct favorites who get A's on every paper despite the amount of work put into them. She is extremely unclear. I honestly never really knew what an assignment was, or what I would get on it. Also, she didn't know my name for over half the year. No joke.

Parrticipate in class--she loves that. BS your way through application essays in journals. If you're a decent writer and you can bs a lot of volume on a very little bit of understanding, you can definitely ace this class with very little effort. This class could be good if she did away with all the confusing readings and concepts.
