Miller's class has to be experienced to be believed. He has so much energy and is the closest thing to genius as I have ever met. Lectures are scattered but always entertaining, and you don't really need them to pass. I found that being creative in your papers and echoing his mania results in very high grades. HIGH recommend.

Comment:
Professor Miller is a bit eccentric and has semi-illegible hand writing, but this was a fantastic class. I learned a lot not just about the poetry, but about the poets themselves and the historical context in which they wrote that made everything better. Fantastic lectures (if occasionally offtopic), and really cares about his students.

Dr. Miller is a kind genius, however his lectures confusing style can be extremely difficult. All assignments are open, making them difficult if you are accustomed to having topics handed to you on a platter. I would strongly recommend him as a professor, as I enrolled in this course because I was so pleased with him from English 200B.

He is all over the places for sure, so his lecture can be confusing. However, I appreciate he values individual's intepretations and ideas. It really allows students to think beyond. You need to come up with your own original ideas and creativity in order to get a good mark on essays. He is funny and open-minded. You won't get bored.

Best prof I've had. His teaching style is brilliant; he makes impromptu mind maps on the board that externalize patterns of association evinced by works. Prefers to explode the possibilities of works and let you find a pattern for yourself, ie, no spoonfeeding lectures. Because of this, I got more from his classes than all my others put together.

Dr. Miller is a mad genius. UNBELIEVABLY smart, fantastically nice, but very disorganized. Gave very vague guidelines for the assignments. His lectures are filled with references that, as a non-English major, I didn't understand. Two short papers, one long paper, and a final.

Beyond brilliant. This man is seeping with information and is a wealth of knowledge concerning not only history, but etymology. I feel enlightened after every class, as if I am in the presence of a great mind. He is all over the map in class, but see him one-on-one if you need extra clarity. He is brilliant. Take a class with him!

Eric Miller is brilliant and frustrating; he is disorganized, thought provoking, zany, hard to follow, and very intelligent. He's open to everyone's ideas and marks easily. His notes are a royal mess. There are many pros and cons to taking his class, but I'd say it's worth your while to be exposed to this kind of person once in a while.

Have taken him a couple times and he is more interested in you having new and innovative ideas than trying to relay his own brillant ones. Have to be creative to ace his class but he is fair, allows extensions, and overall one of the smartest people I have ever met.

confusing lectures. has notes on the board all over the place, if you try to copy them, you will get nowhere, better to make your own notes directed towards possible essay topics supported by stuff he brings up, because he will cover so much possible research material. he makes sense if you catch him right after class and ask him about stuff

Dr. Miller is brilliant! His notes are impossible to follow, and generally consist of single words that sometimes get circled. His knowledge of etymology is amazing. Even though his lectures are all over the place, he still makes sure people understand and his love of the material makes you enjoy the course. He doesn't call on students in class.

Lectures were often hard to follow, as were the notes on the board. Definitely a smart guy, but it made him expect way too much of students. Was NOT that easy of a marker, and gave overly complicated feedback. Didn't get great marks, and didn't learn a whole lot from the class. Overall, not a worthwhile class.

I found Miller hard to follow. His notes on the board are impossible to read. I found him interesting for the first few classes and then just frustrating. He became increasingly paranoid, jumpy and angry at the students for things such as coughing as the semester continued. That said, he marks easy and gives good feedback on essays.
