If you want to improve your writing skills, I recommand Lisa. She is very caring and understanding. I've never seen a prof who works so hard and puts so much effort to help her students. Even though her marking was hard, it was worth it. Her comments are very helpful and clar. Her class is discussion base.

Lisa is perhaps the best prof I've had. She is a great encourager of discussion & kindler of passion, etc., etc. But she does (in my very-high-standard-view) fall victim to the "academic" PoV: she's more concerned with technical academic correctness than having students produce something good and interesting outside university standards.

Comment:

A lit class is a lit class, so of course there was tons a lot of reading, but Prof Surridge obviously really loves what she teaches. She is very easy to engage with, and although she is a difficult marker, she is not impossible. Doesn't seem failable unless you do nothing.

I loved Victorian literature and my prof before her kind of killed my enthusiasm about it, but with Lisa, my love was absolutely rekindled. She takes even the most boring of novels and turns them into the best thing you've ever read. She clearly wants to make the assignments fun instead of having your run of the mill papers.

At first I was skeptical of her assignments and the way the class was structured, but I learned so much in her class. She challenges you without having unreasonable expectations, and she will ALWAYS go the extra mile to help you in any way she can. Both an incredibly nice person, and an excellent prof. Highly recommended.

I've taken two classes with Lisa and she is wonderful. The course load is perhaps heavier than others but it is a rewarding experience. If offered be sure to attend her optional professional writing class. IT IS AMAZING! I can't say enough about how wonderful Lisa is.

There is nothing good i can't say about Lisa: engaging, funny, challenging but fair, entertaining, intelligent, considerate... the list goes on. Definitely one of the most rewarding profs if ever had and i learned more from her class than anyother class.

Lisa has very little to say in her lectures. She rehashes what students have told her during her office hours. Rather than teach, she uses student presentations to do her job. Lisa is also a scatterbrain (it didn't bolster my confidence when she forgot where the classroom was after reading break)! Take Leighton instead.

Lisa is fabulous! She's fun, smart and really encourages her students. I fell in love with Victorian literature because of her. She was helpful outside of class and her comments on papers were exceptionally valuable. My writing greatly improved. I would definitely recommend her and hope to have her again. She's quite witty too and very personable.
