Very interesting class. If you can argue and think critically, it's an easy class. You do have to speak up in class, but the readings aren't necessary since he summarizes everything in class. You can suck up by reading and preparing an argument ahead of time.

Not a bad professor, hard to follow sometimes, very willing to help you out when you need it. Sometimes funny, makes lectures interesting. Read the assigned readings, and speak up a little in class and you'll do fine.

Katayama is a tough prof., but as long as your read the selections and participate in class, it's not that bad. His exam qusetions come almost directly from his notes. I ended up with an A, and all I had to do was read the book, go over my notes, and speak up once in a while during lecture.

He's really intelligent, knowledgeable, and helpful. He's also very willing to answer questions/help outside of class. However, the class is really difficult. Arguing with this guy is like arguing with a brick wall.

He is an amazing professor! He makes the material as clear a possible and is ALWAYS willing to help. He is willing to work with you to help you develop your own ideas and arguments. Probably one of the best professors I have had at ONU. I learned so much from him!

He is not that hard to understand. His notes are pretty clear. His class is a lot of fun and very interesting, especially if you participate in the discussions. However, the tests are extremely hard, even if you study. The questions are worded wierd. Dont take the class if you dont have to, but its a nice class to take for fun. Expect a C!

The teacher is very unclear in what he expects...no matter what you say in class you are always wrong...it's extremely hard to try and understand what he says...if you have ever see Rush Hour its like Jackie Chan (No one understands the words coming out of his mouth) I would highly recommend not taking his class!!

nice guy.midterm and final are MC and then written essay. VERY thorough notes right from the book. have 2 other short papers and inclass group projects that you are guaranteed 4/5. The MC ?s are kinda tricky but its all in the notes. Kinda grades hard on essays but you just have to be thorough. He's managable.but its ethics so its not too exciting.

I hate this man with a passion. It's the only class I've gotten a C in at Northern. If you don't participate in class, you're basically screwed. His exams are very difficult, and the thought experiments are tough too. Stay away from him at all costs!

He is a mean man. I know many who have left his class in tears after he rips your projects apart. Plus, only philosophy majors get A's no matter how hard you try!
