His book does not explain concepts well, is not fun to read (it painfully lacks concision), nor does it help much w the online HW. Did I mention that it has no glossary to optimize the learning process? He also does not prepare you well for his absurdly hard exams. Still, he's an occasionally funny dude during lectures & tells good chem analogies.

Not an easy class, requires commitment and participation. Tests are entirely multiple choice and the the homework is graded. Not an easy A. However, he is in the too 3 best chemistry professors at SMC solely because of his fairness, amazing lectures and clear grading criteria. If you study, and stay up to the lectures, you will get an A.

Professor Gallogly definitely knows his stuff but has a hard time giving good lectures and notes. The exams were extremely difficult and the class averages were around 50%. At the end of the semester, he had to lower the class curve by 5% because of how horrible the grades were. Each absence is also -5 points which is 0.5% of your overall grade.

Gallery's class was a very hard earned B- this is coming from an A-student. He is quick in lectures + sometimes when students ask him to do practice problems he says "just do the homework" (not helpful). Don't get me wrong; he is a very nice guy- he just isn't a great professor. If it gives you an idea, class averages for tests were 55% + below.

Not for the average student. His exams are challenging but if you do good on the HW you should be alright. He's a great lecturer and he curves.

His lectures are great and he is always available. But his tests are from hell. If you are a chem major or need do well in this class, I recommend this be your only STEM class for the semester. Don't skip class, marks down a lot for absences. Also recommend you go to office ours so he is familiar with your face, can make or break your grade.

did not like his teaching style On all three exams the class average ranged from about 50-55%, there is something wrong if most people are "failing". Be cautious and check to see if he could be good for you. Nice guy but i feel like i did not learn anything and it was difficult to prepare for the exams since they were diff than what we learned.

This guy... VERY SMART TEACHER but alas his tests are very hard. failed both him 2/3 exams and told me i could still get A this is impossible. I studied 15 days 24/7 vs an exam i studied 2 days both tests i got the same grade. DONT TAKE.

This class was challenging for me because I had some trouble understanding the topics. When I went to him for clarifications he wouldn't even make eye contact and he would keep his answers short or just ask you to ask someone else. I felt he wasn't approachable. I did like that he would give you free points sometimes on the lab work.

He doesn't help you if your stuck, he will usually say: ask someone else or try harder. 3 tests, no quiz's, partial credit is only 1 or 2 points. Easy parts: The labs and the hw is online, (google them, it has explanations). The only reason I took this because he curves (look at his syllabus). Attendance is mand. otherwise he cuts 5% per day.

Some understand his lectures but it seemed to me he wanted to do a little of everything. There's A LOT of concepts covered in this class (which other professors don't cover as far as I know) and tests are super tricky and he even says they're a collection of most missed questions through the years so good luck getting an A.

Gallogly is an interesting guy - someone who's fun to joke around with and easy-going. That being said, his lectures are weird. It feels like he's doing a lot, and explaining a lot, but really, he's not. He glosses over definitions/explanations & goes right into example problems. If you expect clear definitions of concepts, this is not your class.

I only have him for lab this semester, but he is intelligent, clearly explains procedures, and I appreciate that the grading is tougher than our lecture prof., it helps us critically learn from mistakes. Very interesting person, def. an introvert (unite!) wish he was teaching 12 in Fall, but he only teaches it in the Spring. Go Dr. Gallogly!

The class is hard especially if chemistry is not your major, but Prof. Gallogly is kind and fair grader. Lectures get sometimes long, talking about chemists' history instead of mathematical work, however you have to read a lot and get to understand a lot by yourself. Really nice people though, curved exams help !

I took him for chem 11, 12 and am now SI for his Chem 11. chemistry is difficult, with that in mind Gallogly is as good as it gets. If you are afraid of putting in time, pick another major. He gives difficult tests with 64% averages but its okay because theyre curved. hes extremely fair, gives the most A's of all professors and teaches the best.

Really sweet professor, but his online homework takes like 4-6 hours, and some questions are hard, his tests are pretty difficult at first glance, usually to answer the harder test questions you have to understand the concept. He goes over every test question with you. Really good professor, I would recommend.

His class is hard, not because he makes it hard, but because the material is hard. If you get the HW, you'll do well on the tests. Although he wrote the textbook, it's not really necessary if you attend class. He's kind of funny. Lab part of class is hard, and he doesn't really explain the labs or help you at all. Labs are hardest part of class.

One of the clearest professors I've ever had. Gives great real life examples for theoretical concepts that would otherwise be hard to understand. Gives a lot of space during labs, but he's also there for any help you need. A lot of homeworks, but they sure do prepare you for the exams, which are easier than both the homeworks and in-class problems.
