Fred seemed too hung up on preaching the gospel of GNU/Linux and F(L)OSS, rather than teaching any practical skills a sysadmin or developer working with *nix would need. I was an experienced Linux user before taking the course, so I passed with flying colours, but for many other students, it only seemed to discourage them from using the platform.

HTML is the dullest class I've had thus far, being a first year Graphic Design student, but I can see why we need it. The textbook is bloody expensive though, and all the work you do is in it, so save up for it now.

People who don't like Unix/Linux: get over it, you are there to learn new things after all. He is very knowledgeable in POSIX environments and also knows quite a bit about Java. He helps those people who try and help themselves first.

Fred's an awesome teacher, he knows his stuff, although I don't think he ever plans his classes before he gets to them. He's really helpful and will sit with you until you understand what you're doing. He's super laid back and doesn't care if you're in class or not, as long as you get your homework done and know what you're doing.

Very attentive to the female student body. Sat at times for 45 mins or more waiting for help. Is very smart with Linux. Needs to learn how to teach it. Usually fixed a problem without any explanation of solution.

Doesn't really teach. Just tells you to look in the MAN pages. Doesn't seem to understand that some people may not be in love with Linux.
