Comment:
I really enjoyed ENGL 241 with Prof. Lock (not spelled with an "e"). His material is clearly presented with a side dish of dry humour and the assignments are REALLY SIMPLE. Found the Samuel Johnson stuff pretty interesting (for 18th century lit). Came to his office hours a few times and he was incredibly helpful. Good guy.

Tells you everything you need to know to ace the course. The difficulty is actually attending a seminar when the prof is clearly not into his own attendance let alone yours and staying awake once you're comfortably seated. He's very knowledgeable and very bored. He has a funny water bottle addiction that will keep you mildly entertained.

A nice man. Obviously teaching because he has to, not because he wants to, but he's a very clear and knowledgeable professor. VERY into close reading, and a fair marker. Also, he thankfully doesn't mark for attendance.

I agree Restoration is not the most exciting period but Locke tries to make it interesting with his use of slides, random facts/stories and dry humor. I thought he was adorable and found him to have a calming influence.

Some people hate him, I love him. His self-deprecating humour is endearing, and he really knows his material. Restoration Literature is not the most exciting time in the world of literature...so he does what he can. Give him a chance!

The Restoration is hardly my favourite period of literature, and so I did not expect the material to be that stimulating ... But if this course had ANY minute potential to be interesting, this man killed it. He should stick to research and PhD students.

although he obviously knows his stuff, he needs to work on his presentation. speaks very softly and can be mind-numbingly dull, despite interesting material
