He knows his stuff. He is passionate about history and it comes through in his lectures. He's always spouting interesting facts or quotes that are usually funny, pertaining to the material, that gives the lecture some more context. He gives out no homework so you better show up and pay attention because he does not review well for the tests.

Havrilcsak is amazing! Great lectures from a nonpartisan standpoint and always says hilarious tidbits from the past. He probably recited 100 quotes this semester; the man has a steel trap for a mind! Needless to say, he requires extremely indepth answers on exams. Buy the textbook, he does not discuss everything in class that will be on the exam.

He assigned us a 12-15 page paper. We were suppose to have 4 exams, but he only got to 3 of them. Rather than just basing our grade off of the first 3 tests, he made the 3rd test count as 2. I did well and got a 4.0 but I think that this was the worst possible solution. You could have a 4.0 going into the last test, and end up with a 2.0 after.

Havrilcsak is a great professor and he's passionate about history so that makes his lectures interesting. I liked taking his class. You don't necessarily need the book, because he goes over everything in the lecture and gives a thorough study guide before tests. Shows movies frequently, if that's your thing.

He is a great professor, and his lectures are very clear to follow an understand. Do not waste your money on the book because one he goes over everything that is pretty much in the book, and two the study guides for the test tell you everything. I would defiantly take him again for another class.

I have had Havrilcsak for 2 classes and as a History major will probably have him for many more. He is a great lecturer and is very knowledgeable and passionate. While he does not take attendance, in order to get the best possible grade go to class. Exams are hard and many people struggle with the essays but I have not gotten less than a B.

He's a nice guy, but I don't like him as a professor. Says classes aren't mandatory but if you don't show up to one, he loses respect for you and picks at anything you do wrong. Do NOT buy books; there will be a study guide with all of the information that you need for his tests. Can't use technology of any sort. Wish I would not have taken it.

Great professor! He teaches history like he is telling a story and that makes it very interesting. Buy the Tindall and Shi book but not the others. I used T&S to look up info for the exams that he did not cover but never opened the other books. Do not miss class and study!!! He is a fairly easy grader. If you miss class you will be behind.

Prof H. is very passionate about what he teaches and has always tried to make sure you understand what he is talking about. Need to take good notes but he is always willing to answer questions during class or in office hours. Have enjoyed the classes that I have taken that he has been instructor for.

Lots of things covered in lectures can't be found in the book, which can be pretty annoying when trying to study; good note-taking is a must. Big on essay questions, but prompts are open-ended and often in vague language, so the game is just to know what he thinks about any given thing and somehow work that into your answer. Good guy, average prof.

Found the class enjoyable from start to finish. He is very passionate about the subject matter. He wants to see students succeed and will spend time with you to make sure you understand what is being taught. Is very upfront from day one on how to do well in his class, as long as you do the work you will not have a problem.

He is SUCH a professor. Haha, he even wears those jackets with the elbow patches. He's deadly serious about history and knows his stuff. Wonderfully refreshing vocabulary, also. Know your stuff thoroughly for his tests, especially for the essays. And be prepared to take a lot of notes. Good teacher. Passionate (and that's always desirable)!

He knows his stuff, he knows how to share this knowledge, and he does this passionatly and effectively. There is not much more to ask for. The only problem I had was that on one exam I was marked off 6%(would have had a 100%) for now numbering my identifications and that a 94% is considered an A-.

Prof. Hav was VERY passionate about what he taught but the lectures were long and often times boring. It's not cool how he doesn't allow laptops in class so it was hard to take great notes. I did not read the book because it was boring and took forever. Once you get the study guides though, you can go off of those to study. It can work out!

If I didn't know better, I'd swear Prof Havrilcsak lived in the centuries he lectures about. He is so passionate. His lecture on the Civil War was so poignant as his voice choked with emotion when he talked of the Battle of Antietam and the loss of life. Take him for whatver class he teaches. Come to class ON TIME and make sure to read the book!

Mr. Havrilcsak definitely knows his stuff and is a good lecturer, but you NEED to go to every class in order to not miss important information! He also goes pretty fast and it's hard to write down everything important in time! As long as you study and take good notes, he gives pretty good study guides so you'll make it. Just expect to work hard.

History was never one of my favorite classes, but Havrilcsak makes it exciting... I'm learning more now than I thought I would. His lectures are complementary to the book, so you need to read the boook as well to get a full picture of what's being discussed. Occassional videos enhance the class, too. I'll take more classes with him!
