Probably one of the best professors I've had at my time at Western. He is very knowledgable about his craft, and tries really hard to make classes interesting because the content can be somewhat dry. A little hard to get in touch with via email, but once you do get in touch he is very accommodating & helpful. Would take again 10/10.

His concepts are unclear, he does not stick to the syllabus and often repeats things in class that are arbitrary and do not pertain to the course. I had little to no understanding from his lectures and he makes his teacher's assistant grade everything, so the marks vary by year.

I took a mandatory course with him that I was not looking forward to due to the material and subject matter, but he took what I had so little interest in and made it fascinating. To add, he's a lovely person to speak/listen to. I was only able to take this and one other class with him, but I wish I could have taken all courses taught by him.

Fake guy. Would be nice to me in person and mean while marking. Failed me for no reason. Honestly wrecked my first year and I regret ever stepping into his classroom.

Comment:
Donaldson did mythology as the topic for the Fall 15 Narrative course, but he focused more on mythology than narrative theory. It was alright; he speaks at a slow pace but with assurance, and though he word-for-word reads the textbook sometimes, his comments on the material are insightful. Read the syllabus; everything you need to know is there.

Comment:
Shakespeare, online. Donaldson will write the entire lecture in a giant document, then you read it on your own time. That's not too bad, just boring. He has a hard time using computers, which leads to shaky communication and scarce updates from him. Thankfully, the syllabus has every upcoming quiz and assignment you need to know of.

Lively class discussions in lectures, really helpful and caring in office hours, inspired me to do poetry-related things outside of the course, and of course he's a funny guy :)

I really enjoyed his classes at 1st. I told him I have a learning disability, which he seemed understanding of at 1st: I was incorrect. I spent the last week prior to the exam tracking him down for my Essay mark (as he doesn't post them) and found him the day before the final. My anxiety was going nuts! Very unprofessional!

Donaldson is like an English professor from a movie. He came into my life and inspired me to be a better student. His enthusiasm for poetry is contagious and his voice is perfect for poetic readings. He is casual and approachable and has a caring and understanding nature. His lectures are thorough and stimulating. My favourite professor!

One of the best courses I've ever taken. He's a high quality speaker - his words have power, even though he always speaks at a moderate volume. He's funny, clear, and caring. He helps you UNDERSTAND the key points of how to speak well in different scenarios, and you improve. He's probably the best prof you can ever get for a public speaking course.

Soft spoken, but very powerful speaker. Poetry is clearly a very strong point for him: Doesn't just point out the obvious, but will work through the topic with the class and offer other readings, text references, etc. Brilliant class. Very funny. Always left with something to think about: One of the best experiences at UWO/WU so far.

not bad teacher. always get stressed in this course because the only way you get evaluate is by talking. He gave away an easy ten percent though for participation, which is always great. One of the more practical classes at Western. recommend taking it even if you do not like public speaking. This is your chance to improve!

Decent prof. Did not care much about the students and made the TA do all of the marking. Never posted any grades at all which is annoying. Would be better if he could make class more interesting instead of reading from the book. Was funny though.

He is funny, charming and clearly intelligent. He also appreciates the humour of others which is really nice. However, I have never had so few assignments in an English course. ONE essay?! Too much pressure.
