Comment:

Sharing inspiration and personal stories set the tone for learning from his actual experience both in the field of geology and his journey. He knows the answers to each question regarding all aspects of rocks, earth and the study of geology without hesitation or arrogance. Makes me wish I had taken this class years ago so I could learn more.

Comment:

He's a very knowledgeable professor. His credentials are impressive. You have to read a lot to pass the class. The quizzes aren't too hard. I'm sure he cares about his students but his lackadaisical attitude is a little off putting. You'll learn a lot about Geology just pay attention. I'd enjoy the class more if it wasn't 3 hours long.

He gave me the impression that he simply doesn't care anymore *literally states in class that he hates everyone. He doesn't respect his students *talks down on us. His first class sob story is pathetic as he tries to say he came from nothing to relate to some.. overall I feel like he was the worst so anything that comes after him I am prepared for

Look, if you show up and pay attention, youll pass the class. Its not that hard. Hes not going to spoon feed all the information to you like other teachers will. Just take good notes and put away your phone. Also, go on the extra credit field trips. Youll have the time of your life and youll learn so much more than you will in class.

Class is of average difficulty. Just study and you'll be fine. BUT, as a person, he's terrible. He likes to "debate", by which I mean ask irrelevant questions to try to make himself look smart. If you lose the debate, he'll make fun of you. And he brings EVERYTHING back to how climate change doesn't exist. It's incredibly distracting.

Course does require you to read the textbook. Exams are based off the text and very minimal questions come from lecture. He did provide lecture notes that go along with the textbook. Also does a review of what will be on exam. Not a difficult class; just LOTS of reading involved.

Professor Hathaway is the kindest most caring geology professor you will come across in you're 4+(let's be real) yrs. Flawless locks of hair. Great attitude towards teaching and very charismatic. All lectures are VERY engaging and dynamic. A+++

Try to get good lab partners,READ EVERY CHAPTER,Make notecards for terms for quizzes&exams!!! Very important to make this class your first priority! It is passable, also make sure to go on the Extra Credit trip(WILL HELP). DONT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS!!! Talks about himself yes but means no harm, definitely got me thinking about the class. Had fun

Don't let the reviews discourage you from taking this class. Just take it, He's not difficult. I'm an average student, and all I did was study and did outlines for every chapter considering that his tests and quizzes are straight from the book. Definitely do the extra credit field trip though!

One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Reading is VERY and I mean VERY IMPORTANT. I've spent long hours studying for this class it's not even funny. Notes are hardly ever relevant to tests unless it's on the global warming or sun video.

Comment:

No homework, papers, or projects. Just easy exams, lab, and an extra credit field trips. The only difficulty is in the labs. If you don't have good lab partners he lets you request new ones. Take that option! The vast majority passed, A's went on the trips, D's/F's never went to class. It's really not bad and the class is really interesting.

Lectures are interesting if you ask questions. About global warming, he teaches you to be critical and do research before believing ANYTHING, because that's what all scientists and people should do. I'm not a great test taker but his aren't bad. I got b's by just reading the book the night before. Lab is easier w/ good partners. Gives extra credit

It's hard to learn in this class because he brings up how smart he is on a near constant basis, how dumb presidents are, & how dumb the other professors are at Citrus. It has nothing to do with Geology, it takes away from class time, & it makes it hard to take him seriously, which is a shame because he knows what he's talking about. Don't take him.

Take this class! Why? Because Dr Hathaway changes your perspective on climate change and global warming. Easy class? No. Honestly I was close to dropping it. I have absoutely ZERO interest in Geology. But his lectures challenge you to think outside the box and not be influenced by popular belief. Expect difficult labs & to earn your grade!

this was a very hard class. but im glad i took it he gives extra credit field trips which i went on one and im glad i did, i did not only get knowledge from the class but i got a new life experience along with it. if you ask for help he will help you but labs are very hard! just study even if its last minute. THE CLASS IS PASSABLE!

My favorite classprofessor by far and thats saying a lot because I didn't like him at the start of the semester and I've taken a ton of classes. If you do your reading, take notes, and pay attention in class you'll succeed. Participate in the field trips, you won't regret it. Doc knows his stuff and his passion shows in his lectures. Loved it.

Lab was extremely hard even I prepared, u need critical thinking or a good luck to get smart lab partner lol. Exam was not that hard, you just need to read book over and over again. He gave us some opportunities for extra credit (but you have to go to the desert about 4 hours away). I do not recommend this class if you only want to get credits.

Great sense of humor which makes the subject a lot more fun. He does talk about his Phd a lot, but it's only to show that he has the qualifications to talk about things like Global Warming. LABS: they're difficult, but read before the lab and you'll be fine. Test are really easy and organized by chapter. Great guy overall!
