Professor McCool is an amazing professor. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about the French language and culture, and he makes class a lot of fun. The homework can be tedious, but it's important that you do it because it amounts to 50% of the final grade. There are four tests, a one-page written report, and a presentation. I highly recommend!

Professor McCool is a great professor. I took 101 and he made learning each chapter really easy, and he always makes sure you understand each topic before moving on. There are 2 cultural reports and 3 exams, and he lets you know what topics will be on each exam. I would definitely take him for upper level classes!

Everyone in the language department should already know that McCool is the bees-knees when it comes to taking a French course so I'm just repeating my praises. Course is very easy and the pace is quick, but not too fast. It picks up towards the end of the semester and the assignments are easy as long as you do the readings. Exams are nothing hard.

Not a hard class, just a lot in a little bit of time. Can be overwhelming and he isn't consistent with the the syllabus at all but does communicate with students often via Blackboard. Great guy, easy class, learned a lot. He forces you to participate in class when you're there but never takes attendance.

He speaks French 90% of the time and while that terrified me at first it is actually not bad. You learn through conversation there is almost no writing. He tells you exactly what will be on the test, and homework assignments are rare and minimal.

Great professor. Last semester I had him for a translation class and 18th century literature. He doesn't lecture too much, loves to get everyone involved in the class. He is very approachable and helpful. He can be a tough grader, but if you work hard and participate (and have talent in the language) you will do fine. I got a B+ and an A- from him.

Prof. McCool is a tough grader (I actually got an A in a higher level course than his). However, if you ask for help or suggestions,he will help. He is a kind man and you will greatly benefit from his knowledge of the language and this history/evolution of the language. Great teacher, even if he is a tough grade... Take his classes!

The best French professor I've had yet. He has made my pronunciation and speed of speaking French 10X better! Although, he can be a hard grader. He is very picky when it comes to details, so put a lot of effort into the assignments! I'm usually a straight A student and I received a B, but my French definitely improved!

Great teacher. Could be clearer in class, but taking a foreign language is always very outside-of-class-work heavy, requires a lot of studying and what not. Prof McCool was knowledgeable but still down to earth and relatable, cracks some funny jokes now and again. Really a "cool" guy (sorry I couldn't resist). definitely would recommend him.

Yea he's a great professor but seriously this guy is such a creeper. There are a bunch of compositions that you can revise if you don't do well. Helpful with improving your accent. I swear though, every other comment is an innuendo. Pretty easy for an old man working with a bunch of 20 something year old girls lol

He is a really awful teacher. He picks favorites and thinks much too highly of himself. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I am a good student- I love school and I love French- but he is the first teacher I have ever really despised.

Prof. McCool is definitely a cool guy. Even though this level of french was too low for me, he was a good teacher. He got things across easily to the students, and had a good workload for us.
