I received my first B ever at UC Davis due to this guys abhorrent class. The guy spent WAY too much time on the first half of the class covering trivial concepts, and then completely skipped over the last part of the class you get into hard stuff with CLT. His lectures are organized and understandable, but the book he wrote is a horrible.

A decent professor once you understand the way he lectures. He's really kind in office hours, but his exams are tough.

Crazy class, not worth my time. If you don't have to take his stats class DON'T. His lectures are useless. They consist of him writing out proofs from his textbook as fast as he can. Class has way to much homework (he assigns a new set every lecture). I'm sure he's a nice guy just a not a great teacher.

a difficult class if you have had no prior stats experience. goes over many proofs in class that you do not need at all for the exams. homeworks assigned every lecture were ridiculously time consuming. nevertheless, he is very helpful and genuinely wants his students to succeed.

Very Overwhelming class. Daily homework that, even with a few problems, saturates your time quite a bit. Lecture is full of proofs and almost no examples. If you want to do well, at least go to the TA office hours for homework hints. My class had very low exam averages to a point we had to do makeup exams. No idea about how his curve will be like.

He is super nice and helpful but the material is extremely hard because he goes over unnecessary proofs in class. As long as you go to office hours and make sure he knows who you are then you will pass

Tough class. The lectures are useless except for example problems, the rest is just endless theory and proofs that you don't need. Homework is difficult without going to office hours, and the textbook is nigh-unreadable (also full of unnecessary proofs). However, the professor genuinely wants to help the students, and allows test retakes.

Hard and intense class. Make sure you do all homeworks and go to office hours. This isn't a class where you can just slide by. You really have to work for your grade. Lectures were hard to follow at times due to the complicated proofs. The professor was very helpful and the TA did a great job.

Very helpful in office hours. I hated stats prior to taking this course and only took it to fulfill an applied math requirement. I am now considering a Biostats grad degree. Nice man. Lectures sometimes difficult to understand. But office hours REALLY help!

It is most hardest teacher , i ever had in my life. he makes the grade curve with the graduate and undergraduate student. It is not fair for the undergraduate. His lecuture and hw are usless becasue his exam is totally different from the hw and notes. some of my classmates got F in the class.

Seems nice, helpful. A warning: If you take him for STA120, be aware that there is almost NO MENTION of engineering. I have no idea why this class is called what it is. His lectures, book and handwriting are all extremely distilled versions of the material; lots of symbols, abbreviation and crosslinking, which got frustratingly unclear at times.

just my luck, i had him for the whole stat 131 series. He wrote the course book and his lectures are full of proofs. If you understand him and enjoy his class, You should be ready for grad school. For people who only want to take stat for undergraduate, avoid him which i found it hard to do because they offer the classes one a year. yes TA is b

Even though Roussas is a nice guy, that doesn't eliminate the fact that he sucks at teaching! Don't ever take him for STA 120/131A,'cause you are NEVER going to learn anything from him. Plus, the book(which he wrote)isn't going to help either 'cause it is definitely the most uncomprehensible book ever written on stats, trust me on this one.

Professor Roussas is actually a really nice guy. It doesn't seem so on his tests or lectures though. The book he wrote, so his lectures are just like it. There are no examples in the book, so you're lost. His tests...wow. The only way to get through his class is to go to his office hours; he actually lets u retake his tests! He wants you to learn.

I had a difficult time in the course, but I think Roussas is a good professor overall. Does a ton of proofs which I don't really understand, but he is willing to take questions and is very approachable. I didn't do well on the tests, but most people did pretty decently. HW can be a little much and somewhat stressful at times.

Roussas teaches with a lot of examples, which I like. They really help to solidify the concepts. While it's true he pretty much teaches his book word for word, that makes following along really easy. His book is organized in an unusual way, but once you get used to it, it has all the information you need and even adresses pesky details.

Comment:
Textbook is awful. Layout is horrible, cross-linking of examples and equations is awful. Brand-new book but looks like it was typeset in the 60's. Prof. just rehashes examples from the book and proofs all lecture long. Many homework problems ask you to do things for which no examples are provided. At least the tests are easy.
