Very intelligent & extremely interesting lectures. Humor can range from silly stories about animals to dark comments about humans & our future. Really cares about the planet & science. Inspires you to take action for the environment. Not afraid of saying his opinion. This class is all lecture & tests. No study guide so show up & take good notes.

Professor Staff was amazing his lectures were very detailed except for key terms you'll need the book. Great study guides, although wording on tests can be tricky. Professor Staff has a great sense of humor that will liven the lectures. The only downside is his voice is monotone which can put someone to sleep. But NOT boring!!

I loved Dr. Staff. He's brilliant. Knows what he's talking about in depth and can elaborate on anything you have questions about. Gives honest opinions. His class is all lecture. Take notes and listen. You will need to Study. Tests can be tricky but most arnt bad. Moves trough material quickly. Dosnt dumb things down. Would take all his classes

This man is a legit rocket scientist, just ask him. Chair of the dept, so OF COURSE he is tough when grading. Write down every word he says! Has awesome personal stories, extensive field experience. Straight forward with expectations, no wiggle room! Recommend for EnvironmentalGeologyGeography majors only, dont take just to fill a requirement.

I've taken 2 classes by Staff and I am a better person because of it. Not afraid to tell you how it is, my favorite style. He prepares us for the real world. Advice. Write down everything he says! Don't rely on a study guide. Remember all the numbers and stats. He is difficult, but I've grown because of it. Take responsibility for your grades

Professor doesn't provide study guides and expects most of the things to do on your own. It was a hard time without rest reviews.

I took this professor thinking to pass a natural science requirement, but i end up with bad grade. The review sheet and the exam didn't match the test questions. I wished he had provided enough learning materials at least for a C grade.I don't know how other did, but I had a bad experience!

I took Dr. Staff's class for 1301 and 1302. Both very difficult classes. Pay attention and really study for his tests. (including the vocab, he makes y'all define some of those). N

The review is useless as the exams questions are totally different. Professor might be knowledgeable in the field but simply it does not work on teaching style. Went to the class daily, took notes while he taught, studied the materials, yet was difficult to excel.

One of the best professors I've had. Very clear and knowledgeable. I learned a lot, and he taught us well. Not too many notes, and I didn't even buy the textbook and made a B in the course. Just study for exams, that's all that's in the grade. Great course.

Very difficult class but it's so much fun. I loved it and learned so much. You do have to buckle down and study a lot, but I have learned so much about the environment around me and he is passionate about his job. He's old school and doesn't come to you to help, you have to go to him. But he will help you!

Excellent lecturer. Will explain in even deeper details if pressed, but most explanations are crystal clear. Book needed if you have no science background. However, paints a rather dismal picture of humanity and and has no reservations about speaking out against poor environmental policies.

This course is right out of a high school biology text book. His lectures are really clear. As long as you either attend class or read the chapters you should do just fine. He encourages questions in class and is really through in answering them. I have nothing negative to say about the course unless the subject itself greatly bores you.

This was a fun class to take. Though the lectures seem long, he is very interesting. Never had to read the book, I just made sure to come to class every day. The tests are straight forward, never had a problem with them. I am probably going to take one of his other classes as well.

This is a hard online class. You have to memorize four chapters at a time and there is no study guide. The test consist of 30 random questions that come from the four chapters. Its an interesting class, but I did not do well at all.Beware of taking this class online, it is extremely hard.

Comment:
The study guide is useless (at times inaccurate), which is frustrating since it is the only review you have in his online class. The only other option is to memorize the entire book, which seems to be what he wants. This has been brought to his attention and he has shown no concern. The least helpful distance learning prof I've ever experienced.

1301 Intro in fall. Enjoyed his teaching so much, taking 1302 now. Has a dry sometimes black sense of humor, and never fails to give it to you straight no matter how bleak. Door is always open,discussion/ questions welcome. Little Textbook use, encourages own fact checking, will provide starting points. Notes a must. Tests take some getting use to.

Professor often gives dubious information with no evidence, such as cell phones causing brain cancer. Poorly worded multiple choice questions on tests dragged down my grade. Interesting class, but it felt more like a high school class than a college level class.
