The course's structure is very well set up with no final exam and tests for every chapter. I didn't attend a single lecture as he quite literally took his notes from the online textbook chapter review. Study the text and you will do fine, I got an easy A- . He is quite a fair marker

I had this professor for a couple of classes. He was by far the best history prof I have ever had. He is really easy to understand and gives awesome lectures.

Rude, useless lectures that I would fall asleep in, a snob... and I actually like music history (just NOT his class)! I would avoid him, but if he's teaching 121, you really can't, so just don't buy the study guide and study from the text instead.

I dont know what people are saying with regards to his tests being fair. The class average was below 40% for the first exam and on the final exam, the only written questions had to do with random pieces of information that were scarcely spoken about. There was one mc question about haydn, and nothing about mozart, though they were ch.22!

Worst professor I've encountered so far at UBC. Unfortunately I hear there are more like him out there. Not interested in teaching, didn't treat us with respect, and on the whole nearly killed my interest in music. History can be boring, perhaps, but this guy made it torture because he's just so horribly unpleasant. Skip the lectures; use the book.

Incredibly disorganized and unapproachable. Learned nothing from his lectures. He often would just read directly from the textbook. For listening examples he'd talk while they were being played so you couldn't understand him or the examples. An absolutely horrible professor.

I must say he is the most terrible prof I've ever met in all of my university years. He's never around in his office hours, he comes to class unprepared, he doesn't answer to student's questions, there's no textbook. Only 3 people showed up for our final class.

The man doesn't give to whits about his students. He gives off the appearance of just riding his tenure as far as it will take him. If you can avoid his class, do.

HORRIBLE. He never comes prepared for class. His lectures are hopelessly disorganized. Sometimes he'll just read from a book!) He doesn't give us a textbook, so we never have much of a clue what to prepare for in every lecture, and the notes are not much help to study from for our essay quizzes, since we have no text to study from.

Brilliant? Definitely doesn't carry over to his teaching. Why does he even bother? There's no point in going to class, since he just reads straight out of the text.

Not the most exciting class, not lecture based...I enjoyed it though. Refreshing change from first term (awesome in a different way). He's all about Bach. A little scary at first, but he's actually a really nice guy.

Alright.... so his lectures are monotone - but this guy is brilliant - if you're unsure of something, just ask and he'll give you a clear explanation. His tests are very fair as well. This is Music history..... how entertaining CAN it get???

Why bother showing up to lectures? He just reads to us from the textbook. The worst music professor I ever had. He may be brilliant, but get him out of the classroom.

His notes, when he writes them, are all over the place. He lectures directly from the text and tends to drone. But he is brilliant, it just doesn't come out in his teaching.
