Prof. Takagi is funny & cares about students' success. Her cultural & linguistic knowledge is vast & makes class activities fun & educational. She notes what students find hardest on quizzes/exams & tailors subsequent reviews & test difficulty on that. Class is not easy. People must understand that a 5-unit language class is not a 3-unit class.

If you don't need this class, I suggest passing on it. You are not going to learn anything new. The "Conversation" class consists of writing, skits, and speeches. But very little in the way of actual conversations. It's a bit of a pointless class if you ask me, I'm not sure why the school even has it.

I've never had such a disorganized class before. I have no idea why she got this job. Basically, she teaches what she does not understand. Plus, she said "i make this class as discussion class." People who have never lived in Japan discuss about Japan. Hmm that's really interesting. I cannot believe she is hired as a instructor.

don't take her class. learn nothing about conversation, test and quiz every day. and always come with a unhelpful helper, he is annoying all the time. i took this class just because there's only one conversation teacher. i took her 121 before, test quiz everyday. and her english is very difficult to understand.

The only helpful thing this course will provide is the weekly 10 minutes given to practice conversing with other students in Japanese. Other then that, the assignments, skits, and speeches contribute nothing to learning Japanese. Also, the book chapters are not followed in order, making things even more confusing.

Do not take this teacher if you are going into Japanese II (JAP110). She barely understood our questions and we barely understood her broken English. It seems like we played more games rather than actually learning what we need to know. Very confusing, take at your own risk.

She speaks low so you either need to sit close or pray that other students stay quiet long enough to hear her. The class is fairly interesting but I was expecting more since I already knew about the culture. Take this class if you want to learn basic Japanese culture. Otherise pass it up.

Takagi cannot speak English well enough to teach a class that is English based. She didn't grade fairly, the reason I say this is because she fabricated the grades and gave most of my class D grades. I won't take her ever again and I don't recommend anyone take her if they want a good grade. The class itself was interesting, just not her. =(

AVOID AT ALL COST! TERRIBLE ENGLISH; DOESN'T EVEN SPELL "POPULATION" CORRECTLY. SHE NEVER DID LECTURE, STUDENTS DO LECTURE AND EVEN MAKE EXAM. ALL SHE DOES IS SITTING IN THE CLASS. VERY UNORGANIZED, PLAYS FAVORITES, MISPLACES HOMEWORK MATERIALS. WON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND YOUR ENGLISH.

Takagi-sensei was definately interesting. I found her teaching style hard to adjust to though. And often found myself lost due to the fact that english was a second language she is not very familiar with. I found myself, in both CCS 149 and Japn 110 repeating her instructions out load so I understood what she asked for and so would my classmates.

Japanese is a hard language, it's a foreign language that has a different writing style than our own arabic letters. She is a good teacher, never once did she treat me badly for asking a basic question. If you act arrogant, then yes, you deserve to get the evil eye. But if you work hard, you'll get the grade you deserve.

Very nice teacher. The class was fun. The quality of students made it difficult to do group work as many of the students were kind of lazy and simply did not participate. I enjoyed the class and would reccomend. It is not a difficult class and you will learn a bit about the Japanese culture. Teacher can be soft spoken so sit close.

Learning any language is very difficult and this class is not easy to puck up at first. This teacher is very kind and cares if her class understands the language. Take her but, understand that japanese is not an easy language and it takes time.

Hiroko Takagi is an excellent instructor who truly cares about her students. Ask lots of questions...Takagi sensei is very patient and understanding. Try to sit in the front...there were some (not all) rude, noisy students in back who made it hard to concentrate on the lectures. Be organized and do your homework on time and you'll be all right!

She was a great teacher. She immersed us in the Japanese culture and taught us more than just the language. She even brought in a rice cooker and made rice in class and even told us about how picky Japanese where with there rice. She also had some really fun extra credit. I would love to take it again, luckily she teaches conversational Japanese.;)

TAkagi sensei was a great teacher. I've learned a great deal from her and actually remembered the subject material a semester later. I wish that I can take her class again. Her lecture was very clear and she had us do the activities in the book until we learned it. Anyways, If you have the chance to take her class, take it.
