Prof. Lane is certainly not for everyone. His personality can seem abrasive and his test are hard and he's an even tougher grader. However, I grew to really enjoy prof. Lane and even took HIST1302 with him the next semester. Though his lectures are long they are very passionate and pull you in. With all that said, he's not for everyone.

Pretty tough class. 4 multiple choice tests and an essay over a book you have to read. Would recommend taking someone else.

professor lane is kind of a grump. he's a little off-putting at first, but his class and tests are very straight forward. he provides reviews for every exam and doesn't make you write a ton of papers. go to class, take notes, do your test reviews and you will make an easy a. I took both 1301 and 1302 with lane and got a b. he's a great teacher.

I failed the first test because I wasted time using the study guide and learning why things happened. Before realizing it was random questions related to names: "Who invented barbed wire?". I passed the class and I feel I have lost understanding of US history. Also makes you sign an agreement because too many people complained, he needed a shield.

- He bunny trails - His tests are hard. - His papers are actually extremely difficult to ace. - No amount of studying will help you. - He will embarrass you in class. - Called me a Salem witch - Is very prideful - Really dull class; no room for opinion. - Loads of notes - Hand talker - Very set in his ways - HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!!!!!!!

He is probably the worst professor i've EVER had. I would not recommend him to anyone. His lectures are extremely long and boring. He is rude, and you will hate being there everyday. If you are planning on taking any classes at the same time as this one.. you will fail.

Here's the deal with this guy: His lectures are extremely long, he has ONLY 4 tests and a 2500-word book review which are all NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to get an 'A' on whether you study hard or not. I had to put 3 of my other classes on hold just so I can pass his class. Take Howard ONLY if you plan on majoring in something social studies related.

DIFFICULT TESTS!!! Tests are on picky details. Questions are like a spray of tiny bullets fired from a shotgun hoping to strike your memory. Lectures can be quite boring and may put you to sleep, but STAY AWAKE! Notes are incredibly important if you choose not to read the textbook. (Btw, he said test averages for past semesters were usually a C).

Class is based on 4 70+ question tests and an opinion paper. His lectures cover important topics but they are masked within all the historic fun facts and story telling he does. He's a good guy but if I could go back in time I would never take his class. If you are a HIST major take his class. If not don't bother the reading will make you quit.

Prof Lane is a great lecturer, which is important since this is a lecture based class. Your class grade is based on 4 tests & a thought paper, no quizzes or extra credit. The tests are difficult, so if you bomb the first few, your chances of you passing the class are slim. Do not wait until the last minute to get started on the thought paper.

Howard Lane is a good teacher. He knows history well and is extremely passionate about what he teachers. He is EXTREMELY quirky, but is always making you laugh. The tests are difficult, however if you read the book and take good notes you'll do well. He does get boring sometimes, but this is because his whole class is lecture- based.

Y'all, this goes for any class: If you want to pass, show up, pay attention, take good notes, READ THE CHAPTERS!!! and this case DO THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES. People that failed his tests were the ones who DID NOT read or do the learning objectives. He's an awesome professor. So take notes, read the chapters, and do the learning objectives!

Overall he's a pretty quirky guy, makes corny jokes constantly, and class is literally a lecture. BUT, he's a great teacher. He's super passionate about history. If you're looking to learn and are up for a challenge, go for it. If you're looking for an easy pass- don't. Take GOOD notes & study. Super fast paced. This is college, people.

I was worried because of the ratings, but I actually really enjoyed this class. He makes history fun (lots of funny jokes) and the two-hour lectures are actually enjoyable, great professor. Pro tip though, read the book the day same you go over a certain chapter(s)- it makes it easier when the tests come around. Don't just rely on your notes.

Lectured for weeks and then slammed you with an extensive test that most likely you won't pass. It was a very hard class and I had to drop so it wouldn't ruin my GPA. Did good in all my other classes.

Professor Lane is definitely not one of the most laid back professors you'll ever have but its obvious he is passionate about what he teaches. As long as you show up and take good notes you won't even need to get the textbook. Got A's on almost all the tests. Start working on your Thought Paper early though, and don't wait until the last minute.

Mr. Lane is the most strict teacher I have ever encountered at ACC. I found his lectures interesting, but because he jumps from one success in history to another, sometimes I was confused. Even though I read every chapter of the book, It was hard to pass the tests. I felt like it was designed to confuse you more than to test your knowledge.

If you fail the first 2 tests, you better hope & pray you pass the last couple wflying colors as well as make an A on the paper to at least PASS his class. He is tough, snobby and I DO not recommend him. I know over 6 of my close friends (including myself) who have taken his class and withdrawn after the 2nd test bc there was no hope to pass
