Gentles was great! he was always very nice and was willing to give extra help. While yes, his tests were not the easiest (particularly the final exam that included 1060-1970 british history) my friends and i really enjoyed having his class. would totally take his class again!

Comment:

Professor Gentles is awesome. He is very sweet and reminds me of my grandfather. He is very interesting to listen to and he only requires you to know key information (no minutiae). Essay and test expectations are clearly conveyed and he is very fair in his marking. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Great prof: nice man who's passionate about his subject but avoid HIST 2650 if you're not interested in humanities/it seems very unrelated to your prog or skills. Better to take another course to fulfill gen ed credits. A lot of the ppl in the class seem to be English/History majors or have background knowledge on European history and religion.

Professor Gentles was very helpful and knowledgeable on the subject of British history. There was one time when I needed to see him that day, but I couldn't work my schedule around his office hours, so he went out of his way to make sure that he could make time for me. He was always very helpful, and very kind. I would recommend him to anyone.

Gentles was a relly good prof. His lectures were interesting and they made sense. I could actually use my notes to study for the exams. I also really enjoyed his tutorials, it was easy to participate in them. He was also really nice to all his students.

Anyone who disliked this prof is a hypocrite: it's alright for liberal profs to talk about their views, but the minute a conservative one does it's all of a sudden a sin. Ian was the best prof I had at York U. and if it weren't for him, I would have gone crazy!

I didn't appreciate him mixing his republican/conservative current world views in his lectures about ANCIENT history! He's very big on participation so watch out for the ppl in the front seats yapping away, they're stealing your participation marks (which are worth more than the final exam)! I also didnt like the fact that I had to correct him alot
