The guy is passionate about teaching the subject but he is terrible at it. Skips around from topic to topic. Study Guides for exams are helpful but he is not an easy grader (you will have more red ink than black ink by the time you get your graded paper). In general it?s a hard class with a very boring teacher. Take this class as a last resort...

the professor knows his stuff and is very passionate about what he teaches, HOWEVER this was the most BORRRRRING class i have taken in four years of college. attendence is mandatory and the lectures and so ALL over the place. gradings is fair but this class is a definatly one to avoid at ALL COSTS, especially for an upper division GE.

DO NOT TAKE! Worst Professor I've ever had. Repeats the same thing over and over for two class periods. Made more than half of the class redo their mid-term because he didn't like their answers, his questions that are too vague. Doesn't prepare you for the 2 essay exams, uses statistics like 30 million to 200 million people died? That's a huge gap

Horrible! Take at JC if possible, Boring! Highly repetitive. 2 Essay Exams, one take home essay, 2 movie reviews, 3 books to read, takes roll. If you don't write exactly what he wants you to, or what he thinks, he gives u an F. I used history books to quote from when writing an essay but he disagreed with what I wrote. Disagreed with historians!

Professor Murillo really knows Latin American History. The essay exams were challenging but not overly so. I know I bombed the Final but still managed to get an A. Take him!

I learned soo much from this class! 2 book reports, and 2 exams essay format. Tip, do the Evita and Cuba report, (read Judas as well, but save your time to study for the first exam-it will be hard) record the lectures b/c the overhead slides are loaded w/2 much info, go to his office hours b4 you write your reports & you will get an A.

You NEED the book make sure to get it because you will fail the class other wise. He has such a thick accent you can barely understand what he says, and half the time he contradicts himself at ever turn. He'd be a great Latin American History teacher because that's all that matters to him.

This guy has a passion for what he teaches and is really nice, however his actual teaching is the problem. Here they are: lack of lesson plans, aimless classes, tons of reading and little discussion of it in class. He doesn't tie everything together. Unrelated assignments(2 movie reviews?!), can put people to sleep easily. I don't he prepared well.

Knowledgable & passionate about the material, but doesn't make it very interesting for the students aside from the reading selections, which were excellent (tho this depends on how interested you are in the material to start). He feigns a desire to include the students in the discussions, but usually just powers through his lectures. READ OR PAY!

Latin America History. Dr. Murillo is very passionate about latin america. He is an intelligent professor. He is one of the nicest professor at SDSU. If you to his office hours he will help you. The class is not easy. You have to put a good 6 hours a week outside of class. You can expect to read at least 50 pages a night. Attendence is mandatory.

Great class. Lectures are interesting but repetitive, probably because he has only taught the class one time. Do all the reading and you’ll get an A in the class. Don’t miss class and don’t be late because he notices those who do it often. He’s a nice guy and will give you every opportunity to improve your grade.
