Dr. Roberts is a brilliant guy and I loved all of his classes. He has high standards for papers and isn't going to just give out an A for effort. He expects high-quality work and thinking. My guess is most of these negative review are people who didn't read and couldn't write a decent paper.

This class wouldn't have been as difficult if Mr. Roberts would have done a better job explaining things. Everyone in my class struggled with him as a professor and we had to email each other often just to figure out the one piece of homework he gave out before the final paper was due. There was no homework, he was not helpful. Would not recommend.

I have never taken such a difficult English class before in my life and it was just an entry level course. If you're looking for help, he will give you the most vague description of what he wants and then grade your papers like you are an idiot. I have never been more confused about what a teacher wants before. DO NOT take him for ENG108. TERRIBLE!

He is no help at all to you. He tries to be funny in class, but he just laughs at himself. BE ready to write papers on nothing but language topics. He never gives out any A's

His Monster Flicks class is exactly as a gen ed course should be. He keeps it interesting, and doesn't give such a huge workload that it makes you never want to return to the subject. I did fail the class, but it was purely of my own fault. He really is a great teacher.

This professor GRADES UNFAIRLY; He lectures on free speech at the beginning of the semesterâ?? then gives me a bad grade, obviously because I saw Sherry Jackson's "The Lottery" as a commentary on statism, how people aggress against each other, and how they rationalize it. Since that's how his income is derived, he hypocritically gave me a C.

The professor is extremely well-versed in his subject. He's also the resident sci-fi/naturalism/anything expert. A five minute discussion can provoke enough material for a 7 page paper (received an A). Make sure to study for the midterm/final. Reread all the material and the matching quotes section will be easy. Wonderful professor/class!

After my first class with Dr. Roberts i made a point to take as many as i could with him. Once you get the hand of it it is a piece of cake. Show up and talk in class and write a decent paper. Preferably a close reading with a doubt-able thesis. Not off the wall but you cant write about the sky being blue.

The structure of each class period is as follows: We read our assignment in the hall, then listen to an hour-or-so "discussion" (lecture) on the subject. Interject one comment a week, and you will receive an A. As for papers, the professor is apparently a hard grader. I received an A- with average effort.

In class work is easy. He is not pleased by anyone's work on papers, will give you a failing, low grade for one minor error. Not an interesting class. Don't take his class!! Will rip apart your work just because he can.

I took his monster flicks class and it was probably my favorite class in all 4 years I have been there. His 220 class is extremely boring, though. He always dresses very nicely but emphasizes words oddly. Very understanding and clear, though.

He was really nice in class, but super rude in emails. He wasn't always very clear, and he didn't put any comments on my paper. It might have just been a problem with me though.

Really hard with grading. Very smart guy, but needs to update the bow tie collection. He is the quintessential, nerdy, college professor. The ENG Dept's resident sci-fi fanatic.

Dr. Roberts is very knowledgeable and is usually willing to help. However, advice he gives can be ambiguous regarding research papers. Overall, the class is pretty easy.
