Jack Jean's lectures are packed with useful information. Don't skip class. Jean is a great teacher who explains things with remarkable clarity and a bit of humor. Encourages engagement and participation. The content of this class isn't exactly easy, but the exams are "open everything" and the review sheets are awesome. Take Jack Jean.

Dr. Jean does a great job of explaining topics in computer org and genuinely cares about your success. He spends the majority of lecture time going through examples and welcomes questions. Tests are fair. The lab projects can be pretty time consuming. Only 3 grades for the course; midterm, final and lab. Will curve final grade based on effort.

A little difficult to understand, but if you focus, his lectures are great. He always makes sure to stop for questions, and is very willing to go over things again if people don't understand. Labs are tough, but TAs are very accessible for help. Exams are open note, open book, open internet, but also very lecture heavy so attendance is important.

Comment:

Very charming and personable guy. Definitely knows the material, and cares about the class really understanding it. Like most CEG courses, lab is a large part of your grade. The TA is hit or miss, but Jack is available to provide help. Exams are open everything, but still hard. Pay attention, take notes, and you'll do fine.

Not that nice of a guy, but at least he makes his exams open-note. He's a fair grader too. However, the lab is catastrophic. Lab TA is equivalent to your self-conscience, because he answers your question with another question. The lab is worth 35% of the class grade, which is also BS. Good luck.

The class was fairly difficult mainly because the material is rather difficult. All the exams are non-cumulative, open book, notes and internet. Jack even requested all the students to bring in their laptops for the exams. Jack uses all the available lecture time well and really cares if you are learning or not.

I liked having Jean as a prof. He stops and asks if you understand, and if you don't then he will explain it until you do. Quick to respond to email. Labs are long - expect to spend lots of time finishing them. Go to class, b/c if you fall behind you may never catch up. Exams are open note, open book, but tough. If need be, he curves final grades.

Prof. Jean has a very structured way of teaching it seems. He gives out slides and will go through them every class. A lot of the time, he wants you to try and answer questions he asks the class, and he will wait for an answer. Labs start easy, but get substantially harder. Don't fall behind and you'll be good. How to do well is Jack Jeans class: Show up to every lecture. Be the one manning the keyboard during lab sessions. Participate during lecture. It was an enjoyable class with an obtainable A if you work for it.

Lectures are pretty good. Labs are okay. Some of them were just confusing, unclear, and a pain. Expect to spend days outside of lab time with your partner to get all the lab assignments done. First exam wasn't too bad. But the ones after felt like they came way too fast and many people were unclear on the content after the first exam.

Not too bad of a professor. The HCS12 (assembly) labs assigned are quite unclear, and as if they just throw you out in a giant desert, and you're stranded with no idea what to do. His lectures aren't too bad. If you participate in lecture, and he knows who you are, he will potentially curve your grade from my understanding. Exams are pretty hard.

Had him for OS. He is a good instructor. He comes from an EE background, so he gives a the hardware layer a little extra attention. The assignments were a little tough, but he explains step-by-step how to do it on the whiteboard. Come to class and pay attention and you will earn a good grade. If you skip class then you will probably fail though.

Pay attention to the class the he gives one lecture before the exam, he give alot of hints in that lecture. he gives old exams , solve them, cause he brings some questions from previous years. he asks for too many stuff / lab / project / HW / quizzes . but ALL in ALL he is great
