Comment:
Online quizzes and in-class quizzes every day! The online quizzes are extremely unfair. If you get one question wrong, you will get a C or even a zero (for a quiz). The tests have even more twists than Game of Thrones. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

Dearden is extremely smart and very passionate about economics. The class is heavily math-focused so you're expected to be able to take derivatives and work through some relatively simple algebra. He likes to put curveball questions on quizzes (as well as the final) but is also generous with partial credit.

This class is pretty straightforward if you put in a good amount of work. He gives great examples in class and in homework (which is optional but i would do them). I would always go through his video lectures before tests, they were really helpful. He's a lenient grader and I think he even curves the course at the end if youve put in the work.

It's very clear Dearden loves to teach ECO 146. However, his approach to lectures is not appropriate for those without a background in Econ or Math. Major topics seem to exist exclusive from one another, and it is very difficult to focus on the problems he will be grading you on later because of his rambling. HW practice is what will save you.

This class was challenging, for lack of a stronger word. I took this class online this summer and it was far from easy. There are 2 lectures per week and the amount of work is intense. Book is useless since he posts copies on coursesite. Do the hmk-very important to do well, participate, and you'll get a good grade. Tests are really hard though.

We have to watch online lectures, and do exercises and interesting micro econ problems in class. Thus, it takes some amount of time outside class, but it's totally worth it in a sense that we really learned the materials before class and even if we don't, we did by the end of the class. Not difficult if you pay attention. Nice guy too.

Very smart professor, knows a lot about microeconomcis. Enjoys challenging the class but helps you walk through the problem. Need to keep up with the homework or you may fall behind.

Dearden is awesome and this is the easiest class I've taken. I'm an electrical engineer so maybe my calc is good but if you know how to take a derivative, Dearden can get you an A

Dearden loves to teach microeconomics. Uses a lot of examples from the WSJ, but his section of Eco 146 is not easy. Go to class, be on time, pay attention, and do the homework.

Class was integrated with MS and PhD students. For a MS student, test are nearly impossible. MS students have no business in this class as it is formatted. Requires extensive knowledge of advanced micro theory and math eco. Frequent homework. Learned a great deal. Mostly Game Theory and IO. Professor loves to teach but fails to capture entire class

Real good guy, made sure to go over big concepts thorughly, and often repetitively. Took online so it might be harder usually, gives detailed answers to problem sets and answers questions without a problem. Recommended

His lectures go off on tangents sometimes, but the examples are crystal clear. If you study the examples and homework problems religiously, you'll do well. If you don't, you'll be very lost, as the concepts are much more extensive than those in Eco 1's intro to Microeconomics

He assumes that you already have an extensive background in eco before you take the class. When you ask for help, he will only give you about 10 minutes of his time and he is unhelpful during those 10 minutes. Pray that your TA is good, beacuse Dearden will not help.

Comment:
Prof. Dearden is a professor who forgets that he's teaching sophomores not graduate students constantly which makes the course very confusing sometimes. Even though he's an extremely nice man he is very confusing and tries to challenge his students too much. Try to avoid his class.
