He's great when it comes to a good lecture. However, he assigns a ton of reading and it may be difficult to keep up if you are taking 18 credit hours, like myself. Overall, his class is somewhat entertaining with his quirkiness and outbursts of hilarity. He cracks himself up a good bit and it tends to lighten the mood.

Dr. Hogue is a very lecture type teacher. If you take detailed class notes, stay awake and engage in his lecture you will pass with a good grade. His tests are essay format, but his grading isn't too harsh. Overall a very enjoyable teacher.

Taking for seminar. He expects you to read a lot and give a presentation on a chapter. The semester is almost over and bibliographies are due this upcoming week! Not sure how I'm supposed to write paper in such a short amount of time. Emailed him with question about topic several days ago and he hasn't replied. HE WILL NOT STOP TALKING.

The class focuses on alternative history. He lectures, takes attendance (mandatory), and assigns essays to read. All exams are done in an essay format, in which sometimes you get graded hard and sometimes you don't. As someone not that into history, I wouldn't take any of his classes again, but Hogue IS a great professor regardless.

He came across as a little over zealous at fist, but actually is a very stable teacher, he welcomes questions, and does his best to answer, but is also good about dolling out information. the big thing is half his exam is purely on the reading. the other half is on his lectures.

As a graduate student, I find Dr. Hogue to be helpful, refreshingly funny, and passionate. He tries to not only teach you the methodology behind studying history, but how to live a happy life. I would recommend his classes and teaching style to anyone that is willing to put forth the effort.

Taken two of his classes so far and done well in them. You have to do a 10 minute one page essay each week, incredibly if you've dont the reading. BTW, do the reading, if you don't, you will fail the class, and in that case, why are you in college anyway if you don't want to read? Attendance not required, but missed weekly quizes will hurt.

He is a very angry person, doesn't keep his emotions in check, he is very disrespectful to students, he plays favorites, he does actually read the readings he assigns or at least hasn't in 10+ years, many contradictions in lecture and reading. His essays are graded poorly as in two very similar essays receive different grades. Worst Professor ever.

Good teacher. Go to class, take notes. If you can't write an essay, and have no reasoning skills don't take his class.

Excellent class... Excellent professor. He is VERY organized. Yes, there is a lot of reading, but you learn so much. You have to show up. You have to participate. Idiots will be frustrated, because your egos and moronic insights will not be tolerated. Have taken four of his classes... boosted my GPA... and my knowledge of American History. Love this guy.
