Course is out of 100 points. Weekly assignments worth 4 pts each, 3 tests make up the rest. Weekly assignments are basically a summarization of the chapter reading, which is actually helpful cause it prepares you for the test anyways. A lot of test questions come from ppts. A lot of info, but he's a helpful and understanding professor. Take him!

Lectures are BORING but you should buy the book because his homework requires the book and the page numbers. Get the 5th edition its a lot better than the 6th. Easy A if you study and do the homework. 1 paper that is only required to be 800 words. 4 test and 4 homework assignments.

His lectures are really boring, and tons of notes. Personally, don't pay attention in class, do the homework on my own (which also acts as a study guide for the next quiz), study a little for the quizzes and pass them both. The quizzes are really easy, and there are only 4 throughout the year. The final is a paper on a religious visit, easy A.

I took his Linguistics class and his Sanskrit class and I must admit I enjoyed them both. I had been told not to take him because he was evil and stuff, but all those rumors turned out to be untrue. Apparently the big pet-peeve that other people had with him was his difference in view with Ladefoged's methods; besides that, no substained complaints

Currently in this class and he's a VERY SLOW grader! We are on our 3rd assignment now and he's only graded the very first one. PPT lectures are all over the place, the quizzes are timed at 10 minutes for 15 questions! Some stuff was not on his study guides, even though he says it was. Disappointed!

Difficult class but if you keep up with the reading you should do fine. Not sure when he will teach about the yoga sutras class again, but this class was awesome! super interesting insight from a brilliant man. Very cool assignments and discussions. He's willing to help IF YOU ASK for it!

Infuriating man. He misgraded several easy questions from the first exam and only changed them when we pointed them out. We didn't have that luxury with the final. Second, make sure you work with him on the term paper, or else he will assume you didn't properly research, despite the numerous references from multiple sources. Also has a huge ego.

Extremely slow grader-even now he still has 3 more assignments to grade, and one of them was due 11/1! Online class so it's easy to fall behind, but it won't matter. The study guides are useless as he asks random things that he covered in a footnote. His pdf files are confusing as hell as he has a tendency to ramble. Skip all of his online classes.

Not a very good teacher. Super boring. Every single class is taught with powerpoints. It gets really dull and monotonous very quickly. I was considering taking a Religions minor, but I don't know if I want to anymore because he teaches a lot of the classes.

Would not recommend taking his course online. It was Extremely difficult! He expects you to know things he doesn't teach you. Tests are way too short, 15 min. He grades his assignments pretty harshly and rates them out of three points so if you get 2/3 it's a D. His point scale for the course is out of 100 so you can't miss anything.

What a JOKE! Difficult class, online, only aids are study guides which are useless, quizes are very difficult, and make sure you check EVERY question on a quiz as they were misgraded... Most importantly, he changed the grades at the last minute without notification so I went from passing to failing- won't take his class again. Too nerve racking.

This class was a lot harder than what I expected. I managed to pass the class with a B despite failing the first test. THis class requires effort because yes, you can procrastinate easily since it's a headache after a while. What's funny is that the assignment sucks more than the quiz & tests.

He is a very good teacher and knows his stuff but the class is SO boring. very dry and dull. Class is only out of 100 points total so make sure to do everything. the tests are 45% of your grade and consist of things he didn't talk about. and the paper is VERY easy. overall a decent class

Nice guy, but very inconsistent with topics. Tests are loaded with questions that weren't on the study guide, paper is highly critisized to new ideas, and his lectures are extremely dull. Shame, I was really hoping this class would kick a$$.

Dr. S is a nice guy but can be very unclear at times. This is an online class and it is not fun at all. Very dry boring sruff about Hinduism. INCREDIBLY easy to procrastinate so keep up because the quizzes and tests will hurt if you don't. Quite a bit of reading as well. Don't take this class unless you REALLY love studying Hinduism.

He is a nice teacher and knows his stuff, but not a good teacher. His test questions are very different from the study guides & he teaches strictly off power points. I asked him a question before a test during his office hours & he told me he was busy & I should look it up on my own.

I was expecting this class to be interesting, but it turned out to be boring. I often caught students nodding off during lecture. Also, he assigned too many PP presentations. I got an A - probably because I had good attendance, took a lot of notes (even when I was bored to death), and went on BB frequently to monitor assignments and my progress.

I took his online course for Hindu Traditions. Because it was online, I found it easy to procrastinate. Keep up with the lectures he posts that go along with the powerpoints. Fill out the study guides, they will help you! I added Religious Studies as a second major because of this class.
