Professor Harrington really knows her stuff and really challenges you. Her comments are helpful and she's quick to reply in detail to all questions. The work is hard but her feedback is helpful. Its very independent yet guided learning style. I liked her classes.

i honestally had to drop her class when ever i had a problem she told me read the book but the book was of no help and not to mention my college is in poughkeepsie ny but she is living in portland oragan so how the hell am i going to get the help i need when i need it, not worth the money i wasted, i expexted better from marist

Teaches one set of material in class, assigns another for homework, and then tests us on a totally different set of material. She curves and offers extra credit because everyone would get below a C in the course if she did not.

This professor is difficult meanly because of the subject. She is very nice but ask difficult question. Extensive extra time and reading is required to make it through the course. And, I recommend going to her office hours at least once a week. If she knows you are trying she will do anything to help.

Jan online vs Jan in class is pretty much the same...useless. She makes mistakes a lot. Knows a lot about the field, but does not teach it well. Her online course was not effective. Her book had a paragraph on relational algebra when we had to do it the whole semester on homeworks and tests. Grades difficult. Too bad we cannot avoid her.

If you're going to take Dr. Harrington, be sure it's online like I did... I've heard she's awful in class. She was helpful during office hours and wants to see you do well. The one issue I noticed though is that she knows so much about databases that I think she has a hard time breaking down the technical materials for students.

Took Data Management online with Jan Harrington. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews - could be that the in-class version is different. Overall class was not too hard, she allows re-submissions of all work with her comments to help you out. Tests were open book and not timed. Fair grading if you follow instructions and read text book

One of the worst experience you will ever get from an online major course, had very high expectations before taking this course, but ended having least interest, i have been holding a 3.8 GPA for 15 credits until i took her course, her grading would affect my overall GPA

Took her for Data Comm and Networking. I think she does a good job, and seems to know her material. However the class is very easy. It is right out of the book.In response to a few people on here, this is Marist . Not exactly the best college in the world. If you wanted better CS / IS professors, you should have gone to a better school.

Spent whole year discussing cloning and nuclear power, almost nothing pertaining to computers. The class was less than a joke and a huge waste of money. This teacher and her capping class are blemishes on an otherwise very good IT program.

This teacher is amazing; her grading system is equivalent to pulling excuses out of a hat as to why you didn't get an A; she falls asleep during movies/discussions; she loses emailed assignments; ambiguity is her speciality when giving assignments; overall HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.

this is why tenure should be abolished. pointless, irrelevant discussions. class is a waste of time and her grading has absolutely no basis. does not state exactly what she wants from students and ends up losing half of our assignments anyway. unfortunately, nobody else teaches this class, so prepare for a mediocre grade.
