Dr. Rosen was by far my favorite professor last semester. Her class is really challenging and you have to do all the readings if you want to do well. Shes super passionate and caring about her students and is always available to offer extra help on papers. If you have an interest in history at all she will make you love it.

This was my favorite class, but definitely my hardest. Dr. Rosen is so passionate and enthusiastic about the topic that you can't help but get excited about it. There's a fair amount of reading, and you have to stay on top of it and participate in class to do well, but it's worth it. Favorite professor- knowledgeable and such a nice woman.

I loved this FYS... it was my favorite class; but also my hardest class. I actively participated and did all of my work on time and frankly worked my butt off for a B. I have always been considered a solid writer, but she ripped 2 of my 3 essays to shreds. At the end I noticed she graded liberal or feminist papers higher than other subject matters.

Doesnt teach much. Assigns ridiculous amounts of reading and then spends the whole class talking about them. extremely tough grader and although she tries to be fair on her tests, they are still very challenging. She is very nice, though, and always enthusiastic. however, i would never take this class again and this class made me rethink my major.

Dr. Rosen's FYS class was my favorite class by far this semester. She is such a kind person and really fair with her grading and assignments/work load. Her class can be difficult at times, but she is really good at offering office hours and other resources to try to help you transition to college. This is a great class to take first semester!

I loved Dr. Rosen's class more than any class I've ever taken at Marist. Interesting,though-provoking, and she is very considerate of everyone's respective opinions in class. Open minded and fair with the amount of work she gives. Is always available to give input on papers before they are due. Take her!!! Amazing person and amazing professor

She is such a sweet women. This class is extremely difficult so make sure you show up and PARTICIPATE. There are only 3 papers. First two are 3-4 pages and last one is 6 - 8 pages. She gives assigned reading every class for homework with questions. MAKE SURE YOU READ OR YOU WILL NOT PASS!!

The thought of a first year seminar was boring, but she makes this class about the 70's cool. If you come to class, do the work, and participate she will notice. Reading can be a bit heavy at times, but as long as you read it you're fine. She will match your effort with you, so work hard! Overall, tough but great professor. She knows her stuff!

My best buddy and I took this class together. He's a conservative thinker and put a lot of effort into very thought out papers. Grade was in the Bs. Me, couldn't care less about this class there were more important things on my mind. Wrote lacking papers, but was what she wanted to read: how Democrats are basically better than Reps, got an A.

So politically biased towards the left that it strongly takes away from learning what actually happened in American history

Rosen has a great personality. However, the amount of reading that she assigns for each class is severely overwhelming. Her exams are also extremely difficult. She is really fun and always smiling, but if you disagree with her political opinions, forget it.

I took her for a night class and loved it. The class was really straight forward with mini quizzes on the readings each class and then we would go over the readings. The readings varied on length, but was not that time constraining. I would highly recommend people take her, especially if major or minoring in history.

She should not assign such politically charged paper topics, because she's either incapable or unwilling to be unbiased when grading them. On every paper where I made an argument counter to her political views I got a bad grade, but got an A on the only paper without a political theme. I'm not giving her the benefit of the doubt.

It's great when the professor has an awesome personality but honestly a fair grading system is more important to me. The "gotcha" system of assessment that uses surprise quizzes does nothing to help one learn or appreciate the subject matter. They ( Rosen & Dwyer) should use assessment methods that foster learning and are not so punitive.

Rosen is one of the most incredible teachers I've ever known. She loves to teach and helps you every step of the way if you ask. My class never had a single quiz b/c we always did the reading. She's extremely approachable and understanding. As long as you take good notes and participate you'll do just fine. Take her class you'll love it!

One of the best professors at Marist. Loved her and loved the course. So easy to talk to and great class discussions. The readings were not bad, some were long and you have to read them to do okay on the tests. There were two papers which were difficult and two tests which were difficult but so worth it. Definitely take this course if you can.

Dr. Rosen is a kind, affable lady. Nonetheless, a student must be exceptionally bright and industrious to excel in her classes. If the student can not exhibit sophisticated writing and content analysis skills, the pupil will be at risk for failing!!
