Reviews made me think my skills would improve from her class, but I disagree. I grew more as both a reader and a writer with so many other ENG professors at Wilkes. She has a tendancy to make you think her thoughts on a subject over your individual opinions and hinders your creativity. I wish I waited to take it with anyone else in the department.

Based on some of these ratings, I was expecting a nightmarish class, but I was pleasantly surprised. She's really helpful, and made what I thought was going to be a bland/tough topic really interesting.

She's a very tough grader. The beginning of the year is easy, then it gets a million times harder. Picks favorites, and doesn't like it when you have your own ideas that differ from hers. Don't take this class if you can help it.

No, she isn't out to prove that she's smarter than her students, nor does she go harder on men than women. Dr.Starner's interested solely in improving the critical reading and writing skills of her students. If you had your ideas challenged you should take it as a chance to develop. You pay professors to correct you, not to praise your failures.

Dr. Starner is a very weird professor to have. She really teaches you how to write, yet she destroys all of your self-confidence at the same time. Half the time she seems just to be trying to prove she is smarter than you, but she really does know her stuff. Do not expect an easy grade, and expect to get the crap kicked out of your work.

I took Prof Starner's seminar English class in 2000. After years of working, law school, and now the start of nursing school, I must say that she still stands out in my mind as an awesome teacher. Do the work, kids. You're there to learn. Your real adult self will someday thank you.

Dr. Starner is definitely the best professor I have ever had. I really liked her ideas about grading and school in general. She was really helpful, but you need to ask for help. You can't expect to get a 4.0 if you don't put a lot of effort into your papers. I would definitely recommend her.

Unless you want your ideas and confidence to get shot down, avoid Dr. Starner at all cost. Her English 101 class is revolved around her proving that she is a much smarter person than any of her students every will be. She is my LEAST favorite professor to date.

Avoid this professor at all costs. Janet Starner is a menace to your day, your schedule, and your GPA. Her classes revolve around "making you a better writer" but she does little to help. More often than not, any interesting ideas will be shot down and she'll instead suggest her own argument. Grades and returns papers LATE. Save yourself.

She was late a lot and unorganized but overall even after writing a bunch of papers and doing horribly on them, I actually recieved a very good grade. I didn't learn much though.

i think she means to help, but she assigns far too many papers and doesnt actually take the time to grade them. so basically you just do busy-work. to sum up the course, i would say its a waste of my life.
