He tends to use a lot of dated material, but lately that has changed a little. He asks that you read all material, do a writing response that he grades and then gets confused why people don't talk in class. He is a hard marker... maybe. I think he marks based off of past experience rather than content though.

Knowledgeable prof, but has been teaching since he got his phD 35+ years ago and is not willing to change his classes or bring in new ideas.

He is SUCH a nice guy! But, that said, I was dissappointed with his lectures, he obviously knows a lot but it seems that he just doesn't even pretend to be interested in lecturing, the videos he showed were absurdly boring. On the other hand though, the readings were really interesting, marks were nice and he obviously cares about his students.

Dont be fooled by his seemingly laxed attitude, this guy knows what he is talking about. He gave us great insights about little known mishaps of anthropologists from the past that not many other teachers would openly admit. A great course for the future ethnographers as to how to get there and do the job in the field. Very interesting course!

This class is interesting and Keil is a good prof. He lectures as he would in a debate and proves both sides (then adds in at the end how he feels about the subject). There is two assignments (essays) and a final exam. This class is challenging for a elective if this is not your major but viewing. Overall, good class.

Horrible prof..All he did was repeat the same in several different ways. He states that he wants discussion but the way he lectures leaves no room for it. He says he wants opinion in your essay but really he wants you to spit back everything he said. He leaves no room for interpretationa and student opinion. Horrible class

Very unhelpful and acts as though we are supposed to know everything. Very bitter when you ask a question. Uses overhead and does not give time to copy. The readings from the text do not go chapter by chapter they are all over the place(random). Very high expectations from students especially to understand the material and course good for nothing.

Boring. Goes over material three times. Wants to have questions and dicussions, but snaps at people when they ask questions as if they were stupid for asking. Expected this to be a survey of gender but it is very specific to profs research interests.

He's an interesting professor, but did not control one student who was intent on giving monologues of his views.

Great class, great prof. Presented each class as an argument and wove each class together into one overarching and well supported thesis. Challenged many of my assumptions & posed lots of new questions in an interesting and engaging manner. True meaning of an academic.

Pleasant prof. Uses a lot of movies in his class. Does not cover a lot of material, but makes lectures interesting with many anecdotes and readings.
