He printed out my essay (anonymously)& had the entire class critique my writing for almost the entire class.Then when he asked me if i found the critique helpful & I said that i did, however i wished he would have asked me if i felt comfortable w/it first.He yelled at me in front of the class & told me to drop the class if i didn't like his methods

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Popiel's class! He gives VERY detailed feedback on your essays, and he offers his help. Those of you who are complaining about how hard he is..you probably don't like English classes at all! Yes, he can be a bit drab during his class, but if you participate, class goes by much faster! YOU NEED THE BOOKS!

Best engligh teacher I have ever had. Don't misinterpret me, he is tough. I took AP classes in high school and did well, yet my first grade on a paper was a C with him. Stay after class and talk to him about your paper after you get it, even talk to him about a paper before you write it. He is more than willing to help! AWESOME! IMPROVED my writing

This teacher is soooooo hard!!!! You know at my highschool I used to get all A's on my essays and then i came here and on my first essay and second one i got a D!!!!!!! Seriously if you have all the time in the world to give all you can to this class then great take it but i have a life and 4 jobs..i dont have the time for this class!!!!

very structured class with tons of opportunities to grow intellectually, he's quite serious about his teaching, you can tell he really cares about his students, he's extremely intelligent, he's there when ever you need him, make sure you read all his material and spend a lot of time with your essays, and make sure you participate in his lectures

Probably the most difficult but best instructor i've had at VC. Grades ARE based on papers however most times he offers a chance for revisions with his remarks. Counts only best papers towards grade. Highly recommended.

I haven't had a worse english class. This teacher never gave me above a C when I could even tell m writing had improved. He didn't like any talking in the lab. He does group discussions every day and will pick people out to answer his questions.
