This class was easy. All you have to do is show up to class and answer some questions for attendance then for the final you have to write a 3 page paper on the topic of your choosing. Lots of dry humor was used during the lectures, but overall a good class

I love him! In Into to Philosophy, his only grades are 50% attendance and participation and the other 50% is a paper that you can write as many times as you want to get the grade you want. He is very helpful. But, his lectures are very boring. Go to class and youll be fine. If you dont make an A, then it is your own fault

If you show up to class, you will do fine, this all depends if you listen to his review the day before the exam, where he goes over ALL of the test material- he then uploads it on D2L for easy review access. We only had three grades and that was 3 our exams. Made a 95 on two of the exams so far. Would take again!

I love Mr. Gold! He is a great teacher who really cares about you learning and not stressing about the grade. I love all the books he assigned and really loved his laid back way of teaching. His only grades were 3 tests which were super easy and basically were just the questions on the study guide.

He is a super nice man. His lectures are very interesting. If you miss class even if you have a real excuse you do not get the notes which you need to do well on the exams. You have three essay exams and a paper. Not very hard but not like a piece of cake. I would recommend overall.

Professor Gold use to assign papers, but now is using the testing center and gives 3 tests. Each test is from the 3 books you read and discuss for class. If you go to every class you don't even need to read. Attendance is not mandatory, but it's very beneficial to learning the content. He tends to let his classes out early.

I transferred to ETSU in 2013 and walk in a week and I honestly saved the best for last. Dr. Gold was great, funny, and interesting. He is not for those that don't like philosophy or find thinking to be boring. Yet he challenges ideas that are very static, like Ancient Philosophy. I loved hiim and wish I could taken him again....

The first impression was that he looks at the ceiling until you engage him. At that point, all his attention is on you. He was a wonderful teacher. I would love to go back to my undergraduate days and take his classes again. You should definitely sign up for his class. :)

Class was easy and you actually learn. If you go to class and half way pay attention you should get an A. All of the Quizzes are open book and note and he even puts the PowerPoints on D2L so you can use them during the quizzes.

I took one class with him around 1988, and ended up taking 27 of my 36 hours in philosophy with him. A wonderful teacher. I still re-read some of the books that we used for his classes. If you're looking for some really fascinating material, take one of his classes.

This class was the easiest class I had this semester. Although attendance is not mandatory, it makes the 7 quizzes throughout the semester a lot easier if you regularly attend. He is a really funny guy, and class is usually interesting, so it is not hard to go. Keep up with the readings and do the 3-4 page paper at the end and you'll do great.

A great instructor as long as you do not open your mouth and voice your opinions. If he does not agree with you, he will ridicule you, give you lower grades, and in my case he sent me an e-mail 2 weeks after our last class to try and degrade and ridicule me some more. I would never take his class again. He has anger issues also.

awesome class.. buy the paperbacks if you want to for additional info but you can easily make an A without them as long as you come to class and pay attention. NO TESTS in his class and all quizzes are open book open note, essay format. it's a bit distracting because he stares at the upper wall when he talks but it's a great class, definitely take

Intro to ethics with him is great. He will make you laugh and think, every. single. class. This class changed me as a person and how I look at the world, and he is part of the reason. gives an objective view on topics. never judges students for their views but LOVES debates! Quiz's are open book & note. He stares at the ceiling while talking though

One of the most hilarious, scattered brained professors I have ever met. Made the class so interesting. If you are looking for a typical ethics class dont take him. (ex/ abortion, capital punishment...) Based more on Socrates and Plato. Very fun and interesting approach though. Would LOVE to take this class again! easy if you listen in class.

Super easy! It helps if you read, but if you don't you'll be ok. Quizzes are simple. Attendance not required, but he does give pop quizzes. So go. It's semi interesting and you usually get out early anyway.
