One of the best lecturers I've had, he provides really helpful information. If you're a first time programmer the first course is pretty rough, especially the midterm. Overall it's a course that makes you work for your mark, but you do learn a lot and Dr. Boyd will teach you more than you need to know. With helpful information for future courses.

Comment:
Lots of work if you have no programming experience. Bonus marks on assignments if you go the extra mile. Caring and engaging lecturer. Midterm test was completely fair in difficulty, so he's either learned to write better questions or stopped testing on things you aren't meant to know. I really liked him, you just have to put in the work.

His lecture was a complete joke. I make an effort to go to all of my lectures, rarely missing any under any circumstance, but I skipped this one because it's literally useless. You can find everything you need to know and more through the textbook when it comes to the content learned in class. He does NOT prepare you at all for the midterm.

Dr Boyd was teaching 359 for the first time when i took the class with him. I found him to be extremely helpful. Goes out of the way to help students out. The only issue i had was his exams. You have to think outside the box when it came to his exams. Assignments were straightforward except the Game which was a pain to finish

The dude is a great prof but he writes hard exams. The class average on our midterm was 8/30 but it curved my 21/30 to an A so I was happy.

Worst teacher ever!!! His midterm was aweful and the final was even worse. Didn't relate the test to the material he taught. Then he just gave out final grades based on what he thought we deserved not the mark we actually earned. Had to appeal to get what the course outline said I was supposed to get. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

midterm was rediculous. the largest curve i have ever seen in my life on the midterm, a 30% was considered an A. over 15 people recieved a 0 on the midterm. DO NOT TAKE 355 WITH THIS MAN. YOU WILL BE LUCKY TO GET A C+

He has an okay teaching style, but when the midterm average is 28%, something is wrong. He is also allowing people to overwrite their midterm marks if they do okay on the final, thats crap. He just needs to write better tests, his final was also killer.

Brutal midterm, however he made up for it by curving the grades (a 64% and above became an A) and discounting it completely if you did better on the final. His teaching style isn't bad; I think it's about the best job one can do with material that's often just so boring. Overall, cool guy, just don't expect him to go easy on you.

I think his teaching style is poor. And the midterm and assignments are brutal, he bases the difficulty on, "if I can do it, the students can do it." Which is great he has high expectations, but he also has a PhD. So, I'm not sure if they're fair to test students on.

Not too bad. A bit weak on the theoretical side, teaches you stuff without really telling you why someone had to come with it. Seems to come from "academia" as opposed to the real world. His teaching is not bad, but he's just not my type of a teacher. He writes everything on the borad!!Which is helpful, but time-wasting, IMO! UPDATE: the mid-term was horroble!! In the words of a fellow student, the midterm was like, after you read a book, he asks you "OK, that was a great book! what happened on page 6?"
