All his exams are heavily based on essay writing. and the identification portion isnt as easy as it sounds. Pay attention to readings or you'll fail. The film choices are amazing. He is very funny and likeable.

I absolutely loved this class. The course material was interesting and Dr. Mcclurken made it even more so. His passion and knowledge on the topic of Women's History is extensive and contagious. He was always there to answer questions about assignments and helped pointed me in the right direction when sources were difficult to find. Would take again

I had him for Women's History to 1870. I was only taking this class as a major requirement, but ended up really enjoying it. He's very knowledgable, is nice, helpful and is a good lecturer. Definitely take a class with him.

Dr. McClurken is very nice and helpful. No official textbook but LOTS of reading and a lot of it was boring. We read about a book a week and everyone had to lead two weeks of discussion. He was very helpful but the class got pretty boring sometimes

Took him for my freshmen seminar. Loved the class, but he is a very hard grader on papers. You have to read the books to keep up on class. Dr. McClurken is a very nice guy though and good professor.

Enthusiastic prof who has his act together and makes every lecture interesting. He makes each class something you look forward to because it's like listening to an interesting story every day. His tests come straight from the lecture notes and reading assignments. I used to a tape recorder to get everything he said he moves fast. I got a B+.

The class was great and he is great at making you understand history, which I'm not good at but I actually remember everything he said he's that good. Each week you have material to read and you comment on that material. (Don't read the textbook just the primary source.) There is a paper which is easy and two tests with id's and essays. Not bad.

I enjoyed this class a lot. Attendance is pretty important though. The movies we have watched are really good and the discussion sessions are fun. McClurken is a semi-tough grader, but just write well and as fast as you can on tests and you'll be fine.

I LOVE THIS MAN. He is hilarious, though sometimes unintentionally (check out his short jeans). He speaks quickly but it's not hard to discern what's important enough to write down and study. If you know the main points the tests aren't hard, just write really FAST. He'll edit rough drafts of papers, my favorite thing about him. Take him!

McClurken is clearly very smart. He's also surprisingly easy to listen to, considering his Mr.-Mackey-like "M'kay?"s. He moves fast in lecture. Write down anything he puts on the PowerPoint; they will show up later as IDs. One of the few professors here with a real sense of humor (instead of a bad stand-up routine).

I absolutely LOVE Dr. McClurken. While his tests can be difficult, he doesn't throw anything out at you that you don't see coming. He's very fair, and besides that, he is an AMAZING lecturer and a brilliant man. Take anything with this man that you can!!!!
