Comment:

Don't bother getting the book because the tests and pop quizzes are 100% lecture. All you are graded on are tests and pop quizzes, but he drops the two lowest quiz grades. There is also a curve. His lectures are incredibly boring and he can be very condescending to students. Holds "review sessions" right before tests but don't bother going, useless

He is very boring. you have 10 pop quizzes & homework assignments. The test are extremely hard but he does curve. The study guides he provides doesn't help prepare for the exam. the test questions mainly come from what he talks about in lectures. if you take this class don't take it first thing in the morning. You'll regret it.

This class was pretty simple. You have a preview & homework assignment for each chapter. All pretty easy. And then a review assignment before each exam. The exams are easy if you follow along in class. Class time is mostly spent going over example problems that will likely be on exams.

Professor Synder's intro class is definitely hard. His grading is pretty strict, however, he curves a lot! I got low grades on my exams, but still got a B. I'd take this course Pass/Fail - that's what I did. All you need is a C, which is very doable if you go to class, follow along and study. Good guy, just a more difficult class!

Very boring class, Jeff also thinks that his students already know everything there is about geology. He also is very strict about answers on exams. Offers no extra credit, but takes random attendance. All in all, he really should of just stayed out of the classroom.

Jeffrey is a really smart guy and knows exactly what he is talking about. He does look for specifics while grading tests, which makes it really hard. The students do not know everything he knows. and our "simple" or "explaination" is not his simple or short explaination. He is really nice and knows a lot, the class is just hard for and intro class.

Professor looks for keywords for exams, and if you don't answer it exactly the way he wants you get all of it wrong. I really wish I didn't have to take this class. It is extremely hard! I am a 3.5 gpa and for an introductory level class this is way toooo hard. Introductory level classes should be a little easier than what he gives.

Jeffrey covered the material fairly well, using notes provided ahead of time along with pictures/diagrams to flesh out concepts/terms. The exams are on the difficult side, but if you pay attention, take additional notes (facts and diagrams not explicitly stated in the PowerPoints will show up on exams), and study hard you'll do fine.

Tests were pretty hard, but he curves them so it helps a lot! He kind of assumes we know geology already and doesn't explain things well. He prints out notes but there's not much on them. Also instead of explaining notes himself, he asks students questions and has them answer so you never really know what the correct answer is.

Prof Snyder is a decent teacher. He is open to questions and involvement from the class but he lacks the ability on explaining his material. Also test are pretty hard since notes and the book doesn't help at all. The labs are pretty easy.

I have to say, this was one of the hardest classes I've taken at BG. I'm pretty decent at science, but not geology. Snyder is a jittery, bouncy coffee-holic. He's insanely smart, but doesn't explain things well. He gives curves on exams, but they're still a bit difficult. Lab portion of this course is AWFUL. I would avoid this if you can.

FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING ORANGE AND BROWN, DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK. He will give you notes. Go to class and Rememberize everything. Tests are easy if you study the online notes, but are rediculously difficult and unfair to do very well on unless you've caught the cryptic messages he gives in class. Overall, actually quite frustrating. BAH!
