Comment:

Porter gives very good lectures and seems to care about the work she does. I started not liking her as much towards the end of the course however because her instructions on assignments were not very clear and I felt as if I was being graded by her own expectations, not things that were specified in the instructions. The course material is dated.

By far one of my Fave profs I have had yet in my 4 years! She makes class so interesting that I can not wait to go to the next one! I am not doing religion as a major or minor but she makes the topics so interesting! The assignments were very fair and she is always available for help. If you do whats expected you will do great

Comment:

Great professor, however having good quality Disney Videos is very important to receiving a good grade. Found the marking of video assignments difficult to understand however, she was willing to walk you through. She is not clear on all requirements for the assignment. Make sure you add quotes from the readings and use lots of movies.

Comment:

If you have the chance to take this course for any reason you should definitely do it. It might be the perfect elective. Dr. Porter is also an extremely kind, interesting, well-spoken and intelligent person. I realized early on that I probably didn't need to attend the lectures but I did anyway because they were so enjoyable!

Probably the greatest professor at MUN. I've taken every one of her courses and would go do some again if I could. She's one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and always loves class discussions and opinions. If you can take a class with her, do it.

Comment:

Religion and Disney was one of the most interesting courses I've ever taken!! Tuesday/Thursday schedule; watched a movie on Tuesdays, learned about it and the concepts on Thursdays. Lots of interesting facts, 3 assignments and a take-home final. Prof was very nice, understanding, and gave positive criticism.

Dr. Porter is a wonderful prof. She really knows her stuff! She is ready and willing to help with any problem that you may encounter. The course material is engaging and entertaining. I never wanted to miss a single class. Make sure you keep up with the work and you will do wonderfully! I would absolutely take any course offered by Dr. Porter.

Fantastic and interesting course and even more interesting prof. But just because it's a pop culture course, make sure you do your work and keep up on the work. It may be fun, but it is graded like any other course. Keep that in mind, and you can have a great time with an awesome course, and fun professor!

Fun course with a fair prof! Dr Porter was funny,informative, and helpful. As a pop culture course most of the material was pre-knowledge for me but Dr. Porter also makes sure that you need to study if you want an A. That being said, shes very easy going and largely treats the course as a fun break between other stressful courses over the semester!

Attending classes, unfortunately, will not get you a good mark in this corse. You need to review the notes (you find this out after the midterm if you didn't read them). Midterm and final are multiple choice but they are some kind of crazy specific (ie, Who wrote ______?,When we saw an infinite number of books in class and double that in the notes)

I've done 4 courses with this prof and she is FABULOUS! Really easy to talk to, her lectures are fun and relaxed but they incoperate a lot, be prepared to do a lot of writing. She is a really good TEACHER and tries to help students whenever possible. Do a course with her, you will like her!

Great prof! Weekly quiz questions were cake, class was very interesting and things were marked fairly leniently. Her notes were a little tough to follow, but if you know the subject matter (Simpsons, South Park), and can staple religous symbolism to them, you'll do excellent. Good times.

Nice person, but her notes are all questions.. you have to write what she's saying as well as her slides. Tough marker too, and so were the question quizzes based on weekly readings, you had to KNOW the article to get the question right! But a very interesting course. Do not take if you hate Star Trek or Buffy or Harry Potter.
