She is very precise in walking through course material with new examples and examples from the textbook. Her slide shows are designed to trigger key points to focus on in the readings--if you don't read and/or attend class to get the background information, the slides will not make sense.

It was a rough class. Don't skip that's for sure. If you miss and get notes from someone, it's still a little hard to understand because she expands on concepts in class.

Tomes was great and super funny at times but I felt that her criteria for marking short answers on midterms wasn't very clear and was hard to get through. Great prof overall though!

Tomes was definitely my favorite professor so far at Mount A. If you're a psychology person and you take intro to psych she is the prof you want to have. She's very clear, her midterms and exam was easy as long as you study, and she's very approachable if you have any troubles.

For an intro psych prof she is the one you want to have. She clearly enjoys the topic and explains each slide well without just reading it out loud. There are only 3 exams which are basically your entire grade so you definitely need to study a lot to feel prepared.

Tomes was a great prof. Her classes were prepared well and the slide show gave almost all the information you need for midterms. Still get the textbook-- she's a fan of adding in random facts from there on her midterms. Overall, one of my favourite profs!

Tomes is by far one of the best profs I've had, her midterms were challenging but not impossible as long as you study! She is very easy to listen to and always uses examples that are easy to remember. I would strongly recommend taking any class you can with her!

Favorite prof @ MTA!! She is extremely approachable and very nice. Her lectures are very concise and professional. Her tests are hard and she is a tough marker, but her intentions are not to fail her students. She wants everyone to do well and I have done well in every one of her classes. Take psych with J.Tomes!!

Also had her for Cog Pro, and thoroughly enjoyed attending her lectures. Her slides are concise and her digressions, especially on eyewitness memory, are fascinating. She is never stumped by a student question, and so has earned my eternal respect! I would take any course just because she was teaching it.
