Jim was my favorite professor this semester. He loves what he does and it really shows during class. Hes an amazing lecturer and is really engaged with the material. There definitely is a heavy reading load (think aprox 100 pages from Tuesday to Thursday) but there is a reason for it as it all relates to the lecture. Its also easy to participate

People always had the same horrified reaction when I told them I had a Saturday class, but it is by far my favorite class that I have taken thus far in life. Prof. Whittenburg is one of the kindest, funniest, and most personable teachers I have ever had and I hope I can take another class with him in the future.

Whittenburg is the man, the myth AND the legend. I took his Saturday class, which I highly recommend. In depth analyses, field trips, and AMAZING food, which was a nice change from the Caf fare. I learned so much from this dude, and I'm hoping to take a lot more NIAHD classes with him.

Took his Era of the American Revolution freshman seminar. One of kindest, most down-to-earth people; one of the most patient and generous professors you will probably ever have here. The all-day classes are long, and were a bit tough for me and my ADHD, but very interesting! Wonderful &intelligent. Do the readings to have a good experience.

JPW is the man! His brain is basically the Wikipedia article for early American history and then some. Dr. W is extremely knowledgeable about the subject and helped expand my experience in the class. Site visits were fantastic and he available for almost any question. I highly recommend taking his freshman seminar or any of his other classes

Whittenburg is the best professor! He really cares about his students -he even brought us breakfast every morning before going on site visits. He is easy to communicate with and goes the extra mile to help students with anything. He is a wealth of information so you truly learn a lot. If you are interested in history you MUST take a class with him!

I miss this class! took it Fall 2011 as a senior, was one of the best early american history classes ever. The sites were amazing, readings interesting (no book) and the sweetest and most engaged professor at the college. Whittenburg is fair (3 journals, 1 exam), inclusive, and one of the best professors at the college. I love NIAHD!

Professor Whittenburg is one of my idols. He was really good to me. I took his summer course offered to high school students two years ago and fell in love with him. When he heard I wanted to transfer to the college he emailed me and gave me all sorts of help. He knows what he's talking about and he's REALLY friendly. I love him!!!!

One of my absolute favorite professors. I took both of his American History Courses. He was one of the most helpful professors I have ever encountered. I must have gone to his office five times and he was always excited and enthusiastic to help. His class demands participation but is so fun its not a bother.

Best professor at the College. Bar none. I changed my major to history because of this man, and everyone I know worships the ground he walks on. I'm excited to take another class from him next semester, since the seminar was 3 years ago..he really does engender loyalty :)

Professor Whittenburg is easily the best professor I've had at William and Mary. Not only is he a great teacher, he is also very accessible and always seems glad to see you. I actually miss going to his 8 am Saturday class because he is that awesome!! If you are a history major you absolutely must take a class with him before you leave W&M!!

Awesome prof, well worth giving up your Saturdays for. While some of his requirements for online journals and assignments can be vague, he is very much fair and if you put in the effort, you'll get a good grade -- not a prof to take if you have no interest or intention of working, but well worth the time and effort otherwise; most rewarding class.
