I had Joe as a college student from 1988 until 1990 for quite a few classes. I enjoyed his classes very much and as a college professor now, I do use his positive reinforcement techniques in my own teaching (such as the fact that we started with 0 points and earned our own grade through planning). He was wonderful!

I took a couple courses from Mr. Hanak in the late 1980s. As a college professor myself now, Mr. Hanak is everything I attempt to avoid as an instructor at the college level. Misuses his position as a podium to spread his liberal ideology to his students. Misuses his position to threaten grade-based retaliation for students who disagree with him.

He was the best professor I have ever had. I had 3 Psych classes with him and I think I learned more about myself and about my life in his classes than most anywhere else. Very intelligent man.

i had hanak a couple years ago (can't remember the course) and i dont think i've ever fought with a teacher more. he's pompous and even tho in his class he talked about how he didn't agree with the 'glass cielling' and 'the old boys club' it's not true. I swear the man invented both of them. If you like a challenge then hanak's the man for you.

If you want to do well in the class, become a teachers pet. He will even tell you that. He is ok as a teacher, but he sometimes contradicts himself and he thinks hes never wrong. If you like to sit back in class and not be noticed, this is not the class for you.

I've learned more in Joe's General Psych Class that I did from the other two times put together. He makes his material understandable and easily applicable to your life. At times, he plays favorites, and he's hard to please. But if you are willing to work hard, you will be successful in his class.
