Worse programming class I've encountered. Instructor is completely unable or unwilling to communicate effectively, and the projects are useless little 5 minute projects assigned one every 3 weeks. Seems more concerned with documentation than programming. Avoid at all costs.

I think the comments against John Agamah are somewhat cruel, hes not a horrible teacher and he does try REALLY hard to teach the class. He DOES know what hes doing he went to CAL TECH for god's sake. Though he may not be really clear i can somewhat understand what he says. If u really have problems read the book and youll understand it no problem.

He cancels class often because and he claims to know his stuff....Don't be fooled... He makes very unclear analogies, doesn't give back work that you turn in for you to know how your doing, and he makes no sense. Even if he does know his stuff, he has no idea how to teach it to you. A nice guy... but a HORRIBLE teacher. what a nightmare ahhhhhh...

The book used is excellent. The teacher provides lots of lab time, as all lectures are given in lab. Otherwise this class is all self learning, teacher is very disorganized and unclear. Lectures are very unclear. Do NOT take unless you have prior coding experience. Book is ISBN # 978-0-07-304702-7.

This was the most unorganized and sarcastic teacher I've ever had. The provided materials were full of errors as well as the tests. Don't expect any help or reply to your questions. Don't expect good grades even if you know the material. If you want to learn Java, find a teacher who knows what he's teaching or use the Internet tutorials.

I dropped out after 1 day! He couldn't get a 3-line beginning program he said he wrote to work. Claimed to be sick and left 2 hours early. Said he gave answers to tests out before tests. Said future classes would be in lab "doing programming" (i.e. no lectures!) Didn't explain anything about lab. Extremely strong accent. Get out of there fast!

I got an "A" in the class. Yes, he is not very understandable. I highly recommend that you take alot of notes. Also, Its not a difficult class, you have to be a moron to get a C or less. This teacher is not gonna go over topics like you want to. He is just gonna give you a snapshot of what Java is, and hope that you yourself start to get it.

This teacher isnt the easiest "A" BUT he does know what hes talkin about. I dont recommend this teacher to NON-COMPUTER MAJORS. Alot of non-computer majors think this class is an easy "A" and then getted smacked down. Boo hoo. This teacher is good at what he does.

I took CIS 190 for Java Programming and he was a terrible teacher. For me to say such a thing is rare, but in this case it truly was true for the ENTIRE class. Sure it was easy because he didn't really assign much, but when he did, the students didn't have a clue of how to do it. He is very bad at giving clear instructions and goes through pointless material while others of the same course were way ahead and fully understood. He also has a hard accent to understand. I highly DO NOT recommend him.
