I love Burkey he is the best. Grades are based on participation and 3 essay sets which consist of 3 or more essays in each. Some are in class and some are out, for the in class ones he allows a one-sided cheat sheet. If you write down literally everything he says, participate in class, and go office hours you will get an A.

Do not listen to the other scores, Burkey is a good professor. Homework is reasonable, class participation is a must but he gives plenty of opportunities. The kicker is his grading, not good. You will not get an A in his class. Period. I take hard classes as a bio major and felt as if philosophy should be a breeze. I would rather take calculus 3.

Lectures are usually boring, but if you take good notes you will be fine. Ask for take-home tests because he will give them and don't be afraid of him. He is usually very clear but the material can be tough, he always asks if clarification is needed so take advantage of it. Great professor.

Was interested in the field until taking his class. Got stuck with him as a freshmen and switched out of the major because of his class.

Burkey is a great professor and he is extremely entertaining. I'm not exactly a fan of philosophy just like most college students, but with him as a teacher, you'll learn to like the subject at the very least. Take him if you can. He's awesome.

Just write down everything he says and think about what he says. Do the reading and try to give forth your opinion. Ask questions! Say if you don't understand something. He tries to reach everyone in the class and is extremely entertaining.

Dr. Burkey is very clear. The reading we are assigned for homework is confusing but the class consists of him explaining what we read. If you put in effort on tests (with a review sheet he gives) and papers, you will get a good grade. Class participation is a must, but if you act like you're interested, he knows and is willing to work with you.

I loved Dr. Burkey! I took him for Philosophy 101 and an upper level as well. He is very nice, helpful, intelligent and engaging. He loves what he does and it shows. His classes aren't always easy but if you work hard and pay attention you will do well. Take him!

Burkey is the man, he is really funny and nice and cares about his students understanding the material. make sure you do the reading and write down everything he says. 3 absences are allowed and class participation matters but he's pretty lenient about it. take him!

Burkey is one of the best professors I have ever had, this class could be extremely difficult and boring, but he makes everything clear, and explains it over and over until you get it, Attendance is a must, but if you show up and take notes, papers and tests are not that bad, Take him!!!

Mandatory attendance, alot of note taking, takes class very seriously, grades hard. Does give you the questions for mid-term and final but he wants everything in high detail. Two papers and Mid,Final is all their is. Oh and mandatory participation that is graded as well. If I could do it again, I would go with alexander!

By far the worst teacher I have had at any level of schooling. Doesn't know how to teach philosophy and when faced with a question he doesn't know (very often), he simply says WE wouldn't understand. Then again, he'll give you a good grade if you're a chick...don't bother taking him if you have something else.

It's very easy to recognize the students who simply don't try and expect the teacher to give them an A. Such is the case with anyone giving Burkey a bad score. His class is thought-provoking and extremely manageable so long as you pay attention and take good notes. He explains and re-explains things to be 100% sure everyone has a handle on them.

Burkey gave me the lowest grade I've ever gotten in a class (and I'm an ACCT major!) I tried very hard in his class but I think he had something against me and would grade me harder than everyone else. Just make sure you get on his good side.

I was soo nervous to take Philo after hearing about stories from friends, but since it's required, I took Burkey after hearing what an awesome professor he was. And they were absolutely right, he teaches you over and over until you understand it. Only 3 tests and a paper. Awesome guy.
