Comment:

Dr. Harms is one of the best professors ever. I hope to be like him as I continue on in my study of sociology. He is so knowledgeable, so funny, and knows how to make a potentially dry subject into my favorite class ever. If I could take this class again, I would. Dr. Harms is a great person and a great professor. Just make sure to do the readings

Comment:

He's an interesting character and definitely passionate about what he teaches. Makes waking up at 8am a pleasure. You can tell he loves his students and loves to teach. I have not had any trouble with the material- just attend class and take the notes he gives. Make sure to study the vocabulary sheets before the tests and you will do fine.

Harms is an amazing professor that knows exactly what he is talking about. he makes the info very clear. 5 tests and 10 quizzes, they are all so easy. takes attendance every day but his lectures are amazing so you'll want to show up anyway. the guy is so hilarious and loves to cuss, you'll have a blast with him

He cares a lot about the course subject, and you can tell. This class was extremely interesting, and if you showed up to listen to the lectures you will pass. Really enjoyed taking this course, and so easy. There can be a lot of reading if you get behind. There are quizzes that are answered and must be truly memorized.

I loved the class and professor, I hated the grade I got. I feel like I learned a lot form this Social Deviance class and I truly enjoyed it, but the ONLY thing you are graded on are 3 very very very hard tests. I diligently studied , but I usually got C's. Take this class if you want to learn and have enjoyable lectures, not to raise your GPA.

Harms is the most knowledgeable teacher I have ever had, with the most interesting lectures, we read a few short books that were relevant and interesting, he writes what you need to know on the board and gives you quiz questions early, tests are easy if you listen in class and study quizzes, I earned a B+ but never missed and got an A in the class

Takes attendance every class period. Harms is very passionate about what he teaches but that doesn't make the information easier. He makes the class as lively as possible but you have to do a good amount of studying on your own to do well. 5 tests overall that are pretty challenging. 10 quizzes total but most answers are online.

I love Harms. He only allows you to miss 3 days before it hurts your grade which sucks, but his class is honestly very enjoyable so I never skip. He has a goofy personality and makes learning more fun. He does give out 10 quizzes for the semester, but he gives you all the questions ahead of time to answer and study. He's my favorite professor.

He truly cares about what he's teaching and is very knowledgeable about it. Quizzes were easy if you studied what he gave you a week before hand (the exact questions that he'd quiz you on) and tests aren't bad if you were present in class and did the study guides. I would take every class he offered. You definitely need to show up to class.

John Harms is super funny! He is really old and likes to cuss a LOT but his lectures are interesting and tests are easy. Doesn't us PowerPoint so it's good to go to class and take notes. Does weekly quizzes but they are just memorizing passages out of the book so it's easy to get 100 on them every time.

I loved Dr. Harms! Not only was he hilarious but he knew the material well and could relay it to his students. There are weekly quizzes but he gives you the questions a week before hand so it's not hard to pass them. Also attend class, I had a B before my final and he bumped me up to an A because I had never missed class.

Harms is a great teacher and is really passionate about his work. His tests are tough but if you study, you will be fine. If you do not attend the lectures, you will fail. He has study guides for every test and you have weekly quizzes that are super easy points. I really recommend him!

I'm an A student and I'm still going to pull out an A, but barely. His tests are incredibly tough and the truefalse portion are especially a pain. You don't need to read, but you have to show up. Take good notes. I wouldn't take him unless you need to.

One of the most engaging, knowledgeable, entertaining and overall quality professors at MSU. Interesting material, only class I didn't skip all semester. Challenging and satisfying course. Definitely would take another one of his classes.

took my last final in this class and graduated. I walked away thinking about what I had accomplished and then thought that if I should ever impact someone's life as much as Dr. Harms has impacted mine, and if someone ever admires and respects me even half as much as I admire and respect this man, I will have truly accomplished something in my life.

I have taken almost every single one of Dr. Harms classes that has been offered and... I would not ask for a better professor. He makes everything clear and his tests are all memorization AND thinking for yourself. You don't HAVE to go to class, but you won't succeed on his tests if you don't. Just pay attention.
