This teacher is very hard to listen to. when he talks to the class he talks to the ground and walls so it is very hard to focus. He is very hard to understand because his handwritting is very sloppy on the board also. I would recommend taking a different teacher in the economics department. he does give extra crdit though for attending class.

This guy was the craziest teacher i have ever had. He should never teach a course for education majors. His tests are too heavly weighted and his grading is off the wall. Had a C average on my tests and ended up with an A in the class, don't know how. Thankfully he's retiring at the end of the spring semester

His lectures do not matter at all. Class was a waste of time, because he pulls the test questions from a test bank made by the book company. All you need to do is read to study. Ignore the lectures, essentially. Offers lots of extra credit.

I am a pretty good student, with A's in my previous ECO classes, but Hoftyzer is a bad teacher. The lectures were random and pointless because it is near impossible to follow his train of thought. He grades extremely hard and has hard tests. I would recommend AVOIDING hoftyzer. If you dont read the book, you will not make it.

He is a funny guy, however taking this class as an education major was useless for me. The projects were helpful but other than that I haven't learned much of anything. Dr. Hoftyzer is so smart if you aren't into economics you will just get confused! His tests are ridiculous.20 questions and 100 points! He drops the lowest score but still good luck

He is funny, and thats it. Not helpful, tests are difficult and he tries to trick you. Blew up on me b/c I asked a question on the test for clarification. Had to drop and take Stats which had a bad teacher but still way better and easier. Also, I go A's in all my past Economics classes.

This class was awful! The lectures were confusing and I relied on the book to learn the material. This class was taught along with Dr. Hail, and these two combined were a nightmare to deal with. They were both unhelpful when it came to answering questions on projects and grading is unfair. Avoid this class, or at least these professors if you can

This was a pretty pointless class. We learn a bit about economics but it is dumbed down for us and it is often unclear. This was the first semester this class was taught and they needed to be more prepared on what they were teaching. (It was taught with Dr. John Hail) They never even knew when to have the projects due & it took weeks to cover a ch.

I love this guy! I'm so not interested in econ, but somehow he made it clear AND intriguing. He also responded with admirable restraint when one of the many morons in the class stated (quite proudly) that the cause of the Great Depression was the Holocaust of all the Jews in America. Keep this in mind when reading some of the poor reviews!

This professor is a very nice man and will help you as long as you ask. If you like world economics then you probably will like this class. The tests were all m/c but confusing. He does give a chance for an extra credit presentation and gives credit pts for being present in class. I dislike economics tremendously but still managed a B.

Hoftyzer is a good person. He's pretty entertaining to listen to and has some good stories. Definitely one of the best teachers that you can take for the course. The tests were really pretty easy and he gives a few big extra credit opportunities. I reccommend!!

If you're looking for the easiest ECO 155 course, it is probably this one. He will drop your lowest quiz score out of the four that you take. Do the extra credit projects if you have time. They are not that bad... and the benefits definitely exceed the time and effort required to make them. Extra credit for attendance!

The subject is dry but he does the best with it that is possible. He is very helpful, a nice guy and gives a lot of opportunity to get extra points. Easy to do well in this class if you study his notes and old quizes on blackboard.
