Yes she does teach a hard class, but I really enjoyed her! If you take the time to get to know her shes a really nice person, and very knowledgeable. She always answered my questions and was helpful to me. I really wish more people would give her a chance! Linguistics is hard no matter who the professor is. But, she is an admirable person.

Her tests draw straight from the book and lectures, but you will be expected to give short answers with EXAMPLES. You must study and feel confident on basically the entire chapter if you want to get an A. But if you are struggling on anything Dr. Adjaye is approachable and happy to explain. Also she has a dry sense of humor that is wonderful!

BEWARE. DO NOT take this professor if you are looking for an easy A. Personally, I thought this professor was great and very straightforward. She genuinely knows what she is lecturing about (her expertise in this subject is impeccable); but then again, I am no Linguistics major. Either way, this professor makes you work for your A.

Most Difficult Ever. I heard she taught at a London university, so her standards are different than what most of us are used to. I couldn't follow her at all. She's very intimidating at first, but relaxed more halfway through the quarter. Ask a classmate for help if you need it (you will). I could've tried harder, but this class blindsided me.

I respect this professor very much. Her accent is lovely and is not a big deal at all. She gives great study guides and is available to help you. All the people whining about her probably didn't grind it out and do the work. I got an A because I dedicated hours outside of class for study.

Professor Adjaye is not given enough credit.. She is a great teacher, very knowledgeable and concise. I think what people fail to understand when taking 319 is that it is foreign material and you have to show up and study to understand it. It IS a tough class due to the material. Adjaye gives clear study guides and minimal assignments.

Professor Adjaye is AMAZING!! This class will totally kick your butt if you don't attend every lecture and take detailed notes, but high standards at this level of education is to be expected. Professor Adjaye has a funny yet dry sense of humor which makes lectures fun. I respect her immensely and love the fact that she sets the bar high.

Dr. Adjaye is an excellent professor. If you show up to class and put in the study time outside of class, you will pass. She is clear, concise, answers all questions, and is a wealth of knowledge. The tests are difficult but she will always give you a study guide containing EXACTLY what is on the test.

Study. Take really good lecture notes. She does not waste time in class with unnecessary information. Take really good notes! Did I mention study? Be prepared to spend a LOT of time studying outside of class. Get a study group together. If she says you need to readstudy something, you NEED to study it to pass her tests. Tests are grueling.

Don't take this class with her, she is horrible in teaching and so unorganized. If you ask her questions she will tell you to read the book. She expects you to know the material well and her accent makes it very hard to understand. this class made me study really hard and i was able to pass with a C

Adjaye’s problem is that she’s boring and very confusing all at once. She expects you to understand the material instantly and remember SPECIFIC details about everything. She treats you like you’re stupid if you ask questions, and Exams are HARD! Randomly calls on students to explain concepts in class, expecting them to know as much as she does. :(

Terrible professor! Run!! Worst teaching ever. Smug and arrogant. Blamed the class for not understanding her poorly-taught info. Practically accused the class of being lazy when we all didn’t understand the great vowel shift. I worked my tail off just to get a decent grade. Hardest prof at Cal state!

This class is not a joke! It is grueling and precise and should be taken with that in mind. Adjaye herself is always helpful, if a little standoffish. She has high standards; be aware of her no-nonsense approach and you won't have a problem. I like that she expects the best from me!
