Not as bad as some people make out. Lectures are a little dry, but relatively good compared to a lot of profs. Test format is annoying, and the questions a little too specific considering the amount of material covered.

John Marshall is one of my favourite professors. He challenges his students to put biases aside and to come at the study of religion from a new perspective. Honestly, I look forward to his class each week. His tests are a bit difficult, but in the end, it comes down to understanding over memorization.

Overall a good prof. Easy to understand, helpful and pleasant. Requires quite a bit of writing in limited time on exams, and takes a long time to get mark stuff. Course material is really interesting though!

This man is a bad professor. Any prof who uses pop quizes to make students show up to every class out of fear must be a bad professor and Marshall proves it. He is intellectually smart and knows his stuff but he should really consider leaving the profession.

He's ok overall but his tests though are way too much writing for the time given.

I love him! Good sense of humour. Clear lecture style: he uses slides (powerpoint), lots of examples and descriptions. Yes, a little biased, as he should be: as he says, these are academic, not devotional studies. Essays, quizzes, exams; no groupwork. Not especially good with question answering. Tough marker, but takes forever.

He tired his best for a couse he has never taught before (I think its his first time). If he teaches this course again, he must focus on the core religions.

Maybe its because he's covering all religions and not just the stuff he knows but his lectures seem unclear, hard to figure out what his point is and what he expects from us. Because of this it has been difficult to study for tests or to write the essays.
