Comment:
Dr. McGlennon is a great professor and an all-around great guy. He gives great feedback and is very clear about what he wants and what will get you an A -- he is very accessible outside of class and while you'll have to work if you want an A, if you do your work and participate a bit you're guaranteed a B. Very knowledgeable and passionate.

Took his Politics of States and Localities class. It's difficult in the course to figure out what exactly you're going to be tested on because he gives lectures with no Powerpoint or resource outlining major points. It doesn't help that the class only consists of three grades. A large amount of reading that is hardly drawn upon in class.

Take McGlennons elective classes if you can. He is very accessible and a great help with writing. Doing the reading is really important and the lectures are less so. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to local government and is an amazing resource.

Unless you're totally oblivious to what importance the local community around you has in your life, there's no way to mess this class up. McGlennon is super qualified, elected official of neighboring county. Has taught for decades at W&M. Always a smile on his face. A midterm, final, and research paper is all. All super easy to knock out. Love him!

Professor McGlennon is one of my favorite professors. He is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. This was one of my favorite classes throughout college.

I took his states and localities class and thoroughly enjoyed it. He was friendly, and I was never intimidated even as we learned upper level concepts. Grades fair and relatively easily. 1010

Agree with evething just said previously. A dissapointment all around. Very broad class, while he knows what hes teaching, its impossible to tell what he wants of you on finals, papers, and midterms which, like his lectures are broad and very time consuming. Only good if you know alot about Southern Politics beforehand, otherwise your left confused

Nice man, clearly very interested in and knowledgeable about the subject (which is interesting), but somehow lectures are boring. Not sure what he wants on exams, insane final paper (which I'm not sure he actually read) due at exactly the same time everything else is due.

Took in Fall 2006. Interesting lectures; prof. covers a lot of ground. Spent a lot - too much - of time analyzing the 2006 elections. Exams are straightforward IDs and short essays, but he's quite a tough grader - detail is essential. A ten-page paper was also assigned; wasn't hard at all: do what he asks for and you'll get an A. Decent class.

Nice person who is more interested in running for office than organizing his syllabus. He dumped an assignment of an entire book on us the last week of classes, because he forgot to tell us to read it. I got graded down on the midterm, because his instructions were unclear. He's an interesting lecturer, but make him clarify all instructions.

Easy course. McGlennon is clearly a genius about American Politics, especially when it comes to current events, but the underlying principles taught in this course would seem simplistic even to a 4th grader. Lots of generalities, very little specific or in-depth knowledge. 10 pg. term paper and a midterm and a final ask you to regurgitate the same.

The people who like this guy are govt. majors who like easy classes. McGlennon is rude, self impressed and really cant teach worth a damn. I did well in his class but I was so sad that he made potentially interesting material sooooo damn dull and he was absolutely NOT interested in helping students with questions.

Keep up with your readings and hit up the primary documents, as mentioned. They're probably more important than the lectures, which can be dry and are generally missable.

Very boring... half the class is asleep ten minutes into it. Lectures are pointless, it all comes from the book. His grading seemed to come out of no-where. Make sure you read the primary documents and to site them on the test. Take with someone else if at all possible!

TERRIBLE CLASS! DO NOT TAKE! He is a pathetic teacher, I've worked in state govt for over 5 years and he's made me hate it. He wants you to cite class material for tests, if not he takes off about 25 points. Concerned more with nonsense, less with teaching and whether students learn. DUMB CLASS

I've take multiple classes from McGlennon because he's pretty easy, and you can get a B by not showing up and just reading the book. Not incredibly helpful outside of class, but I definitely wouldn't call him rude. Lectures can be boring, but can be interesting as well.
