He's honestly not that bad. He is very helpful in office hours, and he is always willing to help students. Weird sense of humor, but what else do you expect from a math professor? Honestly, Neu is way too smart to be teaching Math 53. He assumes his students know a lot of the material already, so he basically just does a lot of supplementary work.

Worst teacher ever. Teaches exactly out of the textbook. Uninteresting. Tries to be funny but is a total waste of time. His tests arent hard, but he is a chore to listen to.

Hands down the kickass-est teacher I've ever had. Awesome and honest guy can get the whole room laughing in math class. Even if you don't like his personality, he teaches in an intuitive way far superior to Stewart for Math 53. Only complaint is that final was a joke, and was less a test on knowledge than precision. Didn't like grading formula.

There were only two reasons I went to class: 1) He says so many ridiculous, bizarre, weird things that it was amusing going just to see what crazy stuff would come out of his mouth (i.e. he's so bad it's funny). 2) He literally tells you exactly what will be on the test. Literally. Problem for problem.

this guy is totally ridiculous: prancing in class, talking like a robot, uttering gibberish, and the list goes on! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS MAN! he writes tests so that you WILL fail. if you want to fail...this is your man.

Pretty good lecturer, and he tries hard to bring his own take and view- often more intuitive- to Vector Calc. Stewart is often confusing, and h points this out. His random jokes are hilarious, which helps keep you awake in lecture. Tests are decently easy, go to lecture- it's helpful, entertaining, and he gives you test topics!

Lectures are riddled with too many jokes that remove focus from the material being presented, but otherwise, the man is a genius. Not very easy to communicate with, but presents fair exams. Hope you have a good GSI to clarify what actually happened in lecture!

Honestly, this guy is a waste of time. He really doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Also, all the tests are handwritten and his handwriting is worse than his jokes and believe me, that's saying something.

While many other authority people obsess with being politically correct, Professor Neu just acts like himself, making himself seem like just another buddy of yours. His jokes are hilarious, and his quirky personality even better. For those that dislike that part of him, note that no one has to conform to your selfish vanilla view of the world.

lectures were only worth going to for the weird hilarious comments that had nothing at all to do with math. awful in office hours, most of my learning came from teaching myself out of the textbook and with my GSI. you need to put in time to study, lectures alone are not enough.

Professor Neu is probably the most annoying teacher I've ever had. He has a very eccentric personality that comes off initially as amusing but gets very, very old pretty quickly. He makes random noises, impersonations, and tells jokes that are often not funny. These jokes and stories, in turn, take away from actual lecture time. Neu often ends

He's extremely funny. A lot of people don't like him, but he really enjoys his job and does a pretty good job teaching. His midterms were pretty easy and he is relatively forgiving with his grading (definitely a plus). His lectures aren't always the clearest but that's why you have the book. Sloppy handwriting so pay attention in class.

Oh god, NEVER EVER EVER take a class with this man if you can help it. He spends more time in class telling completely irrelevant (and often creepy) stories than he does on the actual material. He handwrites everything, including midterms, and his writing's illegible. He's terrible at phrasing questions, meaning you take too long on exams.

I taught myself out of the book for most of this course. Neu just rambles on most of the time in lecture and his lectures are unclear and had to apply when comes to quizzes, hmwk and exams. My GSI was not much better, but I bet that a good GSI would have helped given me understanding of the material (since Professor Neu just confused me)

Comment:

Math 53 can be made very difficult or extreamly easy. Professor Neu's treatment of the material is very elementary. If you are a math major dont take Math53 with Neu. Take the honors version of the course. Neu just does examples for half the class. That said, he is really hilarious, so if you appreciate humor more than math, take 53 with him.
