Professor Cameron is an extremely nice guy who really loves the material that he teaches. He's an extremely fair marker, and is always looking to help his students. The only downside to this course is that there is an insane amount of reading that needs to be done, as each couple lectures are on a different country in Latin America.

I loved this prof solely based on the fact he LOVES what he teaches - and it shows. A class is so much better when the prof cares about the material! Really nice guy too, very approachable and fair. A real gem! Hope I get to take a class with him again.

He is such a nice guy, that genuinely cares about his students, he is always ready to help you and he is so knowledgeable about Latin America. However the course is quite heavy in terms of readings but it is so interesting, and as long you do the readings and show up to lectures, its easy to get a good mark

Prof Cameron is the best prof I have had at UBC. He is knowledgable, helpful, cares about his students, a truly respected authority in his field of study (Latin America). Yes, there are readings(duh). Try to do them,go to lectures. He is amazing! Textbook is a great resource too. Grading is FAIR. Tests don't include surprises.

Professor Cameron is great. He is EXTREMELY knowlegable and passionate about Latin America and if you're interested in the region, I highly recommend taking his class. I don't believe that he's a hard marker. He's actually quite fair but expect you to have a clear and strong thesis statement and support it properly.

He is perhaps one of the most engaging and thoughtful professors I've ever had. Some people may regard him as a hard marker, but getting a good mark is based on the logic and strength of your thesis statement, and reading the assigned chapters once over. He always clearly states exactly what he's looking for. I got an 81, class avg was 75.

Really passionate about the topics and extremely knowlegable and intelligent. I recommend this class if you have a real interest in the region. He isn't necessarily easy though. He's fair so if you're interested in Latin America and are willing to work hard you should do well!

Don't take this class unless you have time to brown-nose. Kept repeating it was impossible to teach the class in Canada (last term he taught it in Guatemala) Said he didn't believe T.A.'s should grade, but then had the T.A. grade anyway & when I contested the mark the TA gave me, he refused to look at it. I am an A student, and I'm looking at a B-

If you are looking to keep your grade average, DONT take this class. He is a brutally hard marker - I had a 3.8 before this class - and actually had to get another prof to remark everything..my grade shot up a whole letter grade! He does not use powerpoints or any visual aid - just stands there and talks the whole time - he's all over the place

If you have any interest in Latin America, take this class. He's very passionate about the material and more than willing to help students in office hours. He's a fair marker and lets students re-write essays. He has a bit of a left-wing bias but is outright about it. Overall, awesome prof. Class avg was 73.

Great Prof! Always available to students if they need help. Not too much reading (50-60 pages a week), and often his lectures are straight from the textbook. The marking was fair, and pay attention to the lecture slides - tsts focused heavily on them. However, I did quite well in his course, so maybe take my review with a grain of salt.

He is a smart guy, and does know a lot, but that doesn't help when he doesn't allow you to express your point of view since he'll give u sucky grades if u don't say what he wants. Ended up having to focus on the stuff he wanted me to instead on what my real interests were on in order to do well on the course

I was scared of NAFTA and political economy stuff and he really made it easy (this was a seminar course). I found him to be totally fair and was really clear of expectations for exams. Quite busy though. Made us buy his book for class but took us all out for beers at the end of the semester to counterbalance any profit he made. Great!

Amazingly smart, bias, and full of himself. The only thing taught in this class is his version. He is amazingly brilliant, but he constantly assigns his own articles and nothing that reflects other scholarly views. He does not stimulate thought, he brainwashes little Camerons. Disappointing class!
